Now I'll be the first to admit I don't 'do' Halloween but it's really beginning to get on my nerves.

First and foremost I can't have a plastic straw for my Macdonald's milkshake but we can have several aisles of cheap tat in most supermarkets plus large pop up shops full of stuff that will be used for a few hours one day before being thrown in the bin and sent to the landfill site.

It really does make a mockery of the campaign to reduce plastic usage.

Secondly millions of tonnes of pumpkins will be grown on farms for most people to bin the flesh first of all and then the pumpkin itself once they taken a picture for Facebook/instagram.

The amount of actual food that could be grown instead and used to feed all the starving kids who aren't getting a packed lunch or the homeless is phenomenal.

And then finally the amount of people on the internet who despite all the restrictions insist they will still taking their kids out trick or treating as they don't want their little child to miss out on a bucket of sweets with a side order of Corona virus.

I just don't get what it has been built up to over the last few years and think it takes the pee when we are being urged to use less plastic and campaigns to feed the needy.

Rant over.

A lot of people bang on about how sending your kids out to do trick or treat is encouraging blackmail. rofl

What a load of absolutely tosh...blackmail, never heard such rubbish.

It's clearly extortion. Blackmail is an entirely different crime.

Anyone using pumpkins instead of turnips and saying “trick or treat” instead of “ money for the guisers “ should be mildly beaten.

I heard a radio presenter reading out listeners' texts, and one of them was about putting up a "Halloween Tree" for their children. Even he sounded baffled.

It's become commercialised to beyond the point of sanity. Our local Co-op is selling £1 orange plastic buckets for kids to collect their treats in.

I purchased about 30 of those buckets just after Halloween a few years ago for 5 or 10pmeach

Use them for babies nappies, grouting, cleaning all sorts

The neighbours must think I’m very proud of my Halloween bucket as I always seem to be using it

Every year a woman of about 30 comes to the back door, the kids always come to the front door, at around 9.30. She is wearing a very short nurses uniform, fully made up with fake blood and so on, I give her whatever sweets are left and she goes, showing her knickers as she walks away, without saying a word.

Mine is the only house that she visits out of a cul de sac of 15 houses.

No idea who she is or why she picks me.

About 10 years ago I thought that a friend had paid her to come to my house but he has moved away.

I don't suppose she will make an appearance this year.

Was she about 20 when she started coming, or is she about 40 now?

So millions of tonnes of plastic tat and wasted potential food is over-rided by one days but if fun?

So you can have a Halloween outfit but I can't have a straw that's fit for purpose?

Like I said above, double standards and hypocrisy.

As far as I'm aware, there is no law requiring all Halloween related items to be chucked in the bin on the 1st of November. Believe it or not, they can be used for as many subsequent halloweens as you so desire! I don't think we've bought any halloween tat since I was about five.

As for food waste, I threw away more food in one weekend working in catering than I have ever wasted in my entire life, jack o lantern's included. And the pumpkin seeds can be used to add a bit of variety to a nice curry

You are aware of the irony that you are on a car based forum mainly interested in fun fast and exotic cars which there is absolutely zero need for in the world if we are playing the "lets all live in a cave and live off the land game"

I bet you are alot of fun at parties. If you feel that strongly about useless tat you could sell one of your watches theres no need for them in the modern era either.
