The thought occurred to me this morning as I was trying to feed my son a banana and he insisted on throwing the peel (and much of the rest of the breakfast) across the kitchen.

A classic cartoon scenario, but has anyone actually ever slipped on a banana peel in real life?

I've just got myself a couple of acres.
What, you've bought some land?
No, I trod on a rake.

Dog poo is the modern equivalent of a banana skin.

They are slippy because the banana split.

Thank you and goodnight.

A friend of a friend slipped on one in the kitchen and ended up landing on a girthy rolling pin, hence the reason he was in A&E with a rolling pin up his arse. Terribly bad luck.

Jonathan Creek did an experiment to see if he could slip on a banana peel. He managed it when it was placed upon a dog turd.

I’d always been told (perhaps incorrectly) that the use of a banana peel was a socially accepted metaphor for dog st in early movies/cartoons etc, and it just kind of ‘stuck’ (or rather, didn’t stick)
