I maintain that if you want to be warm you have to wear long socks.
If you want to be extra warm outdoors you have wear thick long socks.
The trouble is they constantly fall down. My wife has made me a couple of pairs of simple elastic bands to keep them up.
This brings me to this question; does anyone on here actually use those garterette things to keep their short socks up. If you watch old Jeeves and Wooster programmes Wooster wears them, my late FiL used to wear them. How about you? Can you still buy them?

Sock suspenders, yes you can buy them, all over the place.

Or buy half-decent socks which will stay up on their own?

Stop shaving your legs, give the scks something to cling on to!

String "nooses" tied above the knees with the tail of the noose bulldog-clipped to the top of the sock?

If you have hairy legs, socks won't stick. But if you shave your legs, the stubble will cause the socks to stick.

Evidence for this: If you have a shaved head and sometimes wear woolly hats, you will know that removing the hat is like pulling velcro off once you have 'stubble' length hair.

So yeah, shave your legs every so often rofl

Well, I have hairy legs and fairly large calves but still my socks fall down.
I've tried all sorts of socks but that doesn't work either, it's only the elastic rings like footballers use that work.

If you want warm feet you just need=

I met someone who had worked on fishing boats for twenty years and always struggled with cold feet until he bought these.

Get the missus to sew them together with a long piece of string, then feed said string down one trouser leg and then down the other. After putting on trousers put feet into socks and voila just like mittens of years gone by they stay up and an added bonus they’ll never get lost

I have type 2 diabetes, no big deal, no meds, no insulin jabs, just use your loaf what you eat, cut out candy, cakes, honey, biscuits, any kind of sweets, also strangely, don’t eat too much spinach.
Having a six month check by the diabetes nurse at my G.P., you have to remove your socks, as your extremities are checked for feeling/sensation.
She said, “I don’t like those skin indentations caused by your socks, bad for circulation, Google diabetes friendly socks, they’re not expensive.
I now have 12-15 pairs of these socks, they’re comfortable, and I like them, not that it makes any difference, but I only wear black socks, so they’re dead easy to pair these up.

They used to advertise sock suspenders in The Chap magazine but I haven’t bought a copy for ages and they aren’t selling them through The Chap website.

My Dad (80s) suffers from very cold Feet to the point of them being very painful.
We bought him Possum Socks (also hollow fibre) and it helped a lot.
Also around £20/Pair.

My annoying personal issues about socks is I always pull them up.

I hate wearing those crappy ankle things, just to be cool and look like I dont wear socks when everyone knows you wear stupid ankle socks.

I wear long socks in winter and as I am now nearly 50 the hair has all worn away on one side of both calves!

Wooly lined on cold days, but shoes need to be loose!

Thin ones in shoes, always!
