I've booked my CBT for the 19th and because i am doing my DAS later in the year I get to do it on a big bike!

I was quite excited when booking and now I'm a bit nervous as I rode a 125 on my last CBT 2 years ago and nothing since.

My instructor was quite complimentary on my riding last time and said he would be confident taking me on a 3 day DAS course after my last CBT however the price at the time was prohibitive.

Anyway, I have heard that the proper bikes are easier to tide than a 125 but it still is making me nervous.

Anyone else done it this way? What are everyone's experiences of big bikes over 125s?

Cheers,

Bob

P.s. the bike will be an MT07

It's been a while (like 20 years!) since I did CBT and DAS - but my training was 1 Day CBT (125) and 4 Days DAS (2 days 125, 2 days 500) followed by a successful test pass on the afternoon of the last day.

It took me about 5 minutes to get used to the weight and bulk of a big bike after the 125. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to do all my DAS training on a big bike if the training school is offering that.

Big bike will be much smoother and more forgiving, the only bit that is harder is getting used to the weight and possibly turning circle when doing low speed stuff like the turn in the road...you will be fine, they will make sure you are confident before letting you out on the road.

I did the off road training on a 125. I'd never ridden a motorbike until that morning. The road section in the afternoon was done on an MT07. I found the MT07 much easier to ride and ended up buying one after I completed the DAS.

It'll be fine, the nerves are normal.

I still get a bit nervous test riding bikes, even though I've been riding for years.

I was crapping myself for both parts of the test, not felt like that for many years!

I don't get nervous for tests... apart from driving/riding related tests.
Passed my theory today and despite revision and knowing a fair bit I was still nervous!

I did my DAS on an MT07 after six months on a YBR - I found it a great experience, and definitely a nicer/easier ride.

It won't be the bike, it's just test nerves. I did the old test on a 125 and was a bit nervous, then bought a ZX6r off a friend a couple weeks later and was fine with it.

I literally got about an hour's sleep worrying the night before my Mod 2!

Try eating a couple of bananas before the test. I really believe they do help with calming the nerves. Was a doubting Thomas when I first read it, but placebo or not I found I was pretty relaxed on mod one with than when I did CBT and was much less so.

Just remember to let the gas/clutch do the moving of the bike and not use your feet to move it and you should find it easier and more control.
