After initially setting my sights on a Mk1 Tuscan S towards the end of this year, the taxman has made sure it's not going to happen for some time!! :furious:

So, being as I'd previously enthused to the same degree about Cerbies and that they're still massively quick, etc. but demand less of a premium, what are the main things I need to look out for if I opted for one(just generally)?

I'd prefer the 4.5, but would also consider a 4.2.

Cheers,

Mark

Chassis condition is very important even cars with full dealer service history can have rotten chassis's, condition of the brakes and clutch as these are expensive to replace, be careful though because it's easy to spend 5 grand putting a Cerb right.

Speak to James Agger, advertises here, i know he specialises in top notch cars.

Also if you can get one professionally checked out.

I'd second that - give the nice Mr Agger a call if your serious and ready to buy. Also do some searches on here, this gets discussed often so theres a huge amount of info (just don't be put off by lots of horror stories - its a forum, people post a lot more about the problems they have then the good times out blatting around in their car!)

The 4.5 gets bragging rights, you won't notice the "less performance" of the 4.2 and will save a bit of money. But what do I know, I've got a super speed six

Or you can just get your 4.2 treated by Austec remap and then it will then you have figures that will blow away most 4.5s.

Cheers for the replies folks, I'll kick off the appropriate research.

I won't pay too much attention to the scaremongering, don't worry. I've been on the Tuscan forum for a while, and despite not owning one, I've always made the point that any car can go wrong. Buying something from a mass manufacturer doesn't guarantee reliability, as some of my friends have found to their cost.

Likewise, I know one or two people who either own or work with TVRs, and they've had little or no trouble with them, simply because they've looked after them properly and actually used them (as opposed to letting them rot in a garage for months on end).

I'll definitely take a look at that 4.2 upgrade mentioned, especially as I was impressed by the price of the 4.2 nowadays.

Thanks again!

Trust me, your not missing a thing going for the Cerb over the Tuscan S. I have just changed from an 04 Tuscan S to an 03 Cerb 4.5 and I can assure you it is a far superior car, and I bought it in prefferance to a Tuscan 2 s!

I've just checked out your pics for them, and both are just painfully beautiful bits of kit. Like identical twin Swedish sisters, I want to take them both home.....

Being 100% honest, the lines of the Tuscan still do it for me more than any other TVR, although by no means is the Cerbie anything other than a great looking motor.

I guess we'll have to see how things go the rest of this year, and then just maybe......
