Hi all,

Does anyone know this car?

Link is - https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/events/2020-au...

It looks very nice in the pictures and in the flesh and I intend to bid on it. While it is missing PCCB and lift, it otherwise has a good spec.

Does anyone know the car, or have any comments on it?

Thanks!

I don’t know the car, as for comment ? It looks like an absolute belter ! I’d expect to pay upwards of £80k?

There’s been a few surface in the past 6 months, one in particular sticks in my mind was the GT Silver one that attracted a lot of attention as it had been in a collection and missed a service ? This looks a clean tidy and well cared for example.

If it were me I’d be speaking to my OPC and looking at its service history and what it’s had done in the past few years. If you can try and get eyes on it before bidding ? Even with the new restrictions there should be some means of viewing, apart from that good luck with the bidding, you probably know there’s a ceiling you’ll have to hit before you can shake off the dealers who will be looking at this as something they can pass on for a quick buck, it ticks a lot of boxes, CS, miles, history, owner count, and for that you’re going to have to stump up !

I think your final sentence is bang on. My sense is that this will be c.£100k + fees, so £115k all in. I have had a look at it and from what I can see it is pretty nice. The challenge for Silverstone is that after today they are not allowed to let general public views the cars, just traders.

I think they’ll be happy with it clipping £100k, it’s good that you e seen it and now it’s pretty much guaranteed who your bidding against ? You just need to keep your nerve whilst remembering it may be a while before another one crops up ?

The last few have gone 70’s that I’ve seen, I’d be surprised if it went into the £90”s but as you say, the last bit on miles, owner count and history ! Not withstanding the fact that red ones are faster !

😂

Nice.

That will make £100k + costs.

Nice cars have been moving to an extent because of covid, people have not been spending along normal lines, less holidays, meals out, retail spending, projects. I have cancelled 3 European road trips this year.

The motor trade I am connected with are doing well, which came as a surprise to me. I therefore expect a very nice, very low mileage GT3 to command a good price, don't expect a bargain.

Sadly, someone like HWM or Hexagon will pick it up £95-£105k, then advertise it for £130k, where it'll sit for ages unsold, unused and unloved...

Hexagon have had one in almost the same ? I thinks it has Ceramics ? £115? Have you tried cheeky bidding that ?

The Hexagon car has been for sale for over three years and hasnt sold. I’m not sure it is due to price either as there were lots of these selling around £120k three years ago. There must be a reason it is sticky I guess.

No way a dealer pays £100k for a 997.2 GT3 however good it is to put it on the forecourt at this time of year with the current economic backdrop.

Lovely looking car and I would think a privet buyer will snap it up...lack of PCCB's is a positive for me on a 997.

If this car is a good one I’m sure a collector will snap it up due to its mileage, not confident that it will break the 100k mark mind. Like others have said certain 997 gt3 cars which have unrealistic asking prices have been for sale for years, or some cases 3 years!

My guess is around the 90k mark.

On a side note, shows how expensive the auction is compared with Collecting Cars - 6% up to £6k instead of 12.5% + VAT at Silverstone??? The seller will get stiffed as people bid less...

I dont get why sellers do it for iconic cars.

you must make more putting it up on PH asking £95k and it selling the same day.
Auctions never work imo unless mega rare expensive cars

Dealers are using CC because they’re getting better results than selling via traditional channels. That’s the reality....otherwise they are the classic “Turkey voting for Xmas”.

Agree with original point too on CC vs Silverstone....for a car like this I think a seller get a better deal and probably gets it a lot quicker too. Never sold a car at auction but some lots seem like they are consigned months before.

Silverstone have 4 or 5 head tuners and the rest of the lots are tat I find (stuff which don't sell anywhere else and with a story) but have had the life detailed out of them so they look pretty.

CC is good as we see the value of cars, and sellers get more than trader offers on a good days if you get 2 people after a car.

CC stuff has been average lately regarding quality though, best cars always sell off book or Private on forums or face book.
if you cannot sell then they pop up on CC and now hope to recover a bit more than a trade bid.
dealers use to to sell part ex which have sat on forcourts for 3 months again hoping for a price above what they bought at trade.

very few cars are bought buy dealers to then resell, I have seen a few but the dealers still have them !! as they paid over trade ! odd !!

better off posting wanted adds or joining face book groups to get the best cars.
I would use CC though but would try a PH add 1st for a month but the cars do sell above trade price.

very rare to see tier 1 quality GT stock on CC or even a nice Cayman R or a 997.2 manual. it's all high miles stuff with missing service dates !

OP, have you had it professionally inspected?

If its a good, straight car, I would want to understand why its being sold through auction. Tread very carefully

I think I will have it inspected by Porsche Inspections next week. I have seen the car and it all looks good to me. I have had two of these before and this one is as good as my others. I agree that we need to tread carefully at auction, but I also think that most cars sold at a decent quality auction are likely to be OK. They can't all have some dodgy past!

Though, if someone here comes back with 'is that the one that was upside down in a ditch last year' then i will probably have a rethink!

I guess the benefit of the auction is that the seller has a good shot at getting his / her money out quickly. Judging by the ones that sit around for ages, there has to be some value in that. That said, surely a better return would be had on CC for all involved?
