What Mig welders are you using?
Discussion
Im looking to buy a mig welder,
I have some replacement floor pans for my mustang and no one is interested in doing the job so I plan to tackle it myself.
I'm completely new to Mig welding and have been recommended to get a welder that uses a shielding gas as opposed to a Gasless mig using flux coated wire.
Of course budget comes into play and paying out several hundred pounds for one is not ideal.

Look out for a used Cebora mig welder. They are good value for money and we're good enough to be re-badged and sold as Snap On.
I've had one for hobby use for 15 years now and it's been brilliant
This. The Cebora or Snap-on 130 is all you’ll need for bodywork. Nice little welder, parts still available, just get an adapter to run it from a proper bottle.I've had one for hobby use for 15 years now and it's been brilliant
I bought a Clarke MIG 151TE second-hand about 3 years ago and its a great machine, still available new.
I knew I would be working outside, without the benefit of walls or roof so I also ensured I got a 'Gas' welder, rather than Gas-less
One of the things that took up most time for me was Gas. Everywhere I read to use 'proper' Gas Bottles, but having worked it out, for my MIG, which spends most of its life gathering dust, I felt that while disposable Gas Bottles are undoubtedly expensive for what you get by volume; I couldn't justify the expense of the extra equipment I'd need to purchase to use 'proper' BOC or Hobby Gas Bottles.
I've done about 5 projects on the car so far and various bits of practicing & miscellaneous small tasks and I'm still only on my third or fourth Disposable bottle.
I would strongly recommend doing your own welding: some of the welding I've seen, for instance while taking parts off scrappers; has been diabolical. I always think to myself "I bet whomever paid for that didn't realise how shoddy it was"

I've learnt MIG welding using some cheapo welder and YT videos over last lockdowns. Built a 5m x 3m gate from scratch and it was so much fun! Definitely go for it.
Can't advise you on welder but I would not recommend using BOC for gases, you have pay rental every month, regardless whether you're using the gas or not. There are many places taking the deposit for the bottle and then you can keep it for as long as you want with ne charge.

The BOC thing always raises its head. I was on the old Volkszone deal. Apparently, a chap fairly high up in BOC had a splitty and organised a ‘hobbyist’ rate. I was paying £47 per year rental and £53 per refill for Argoshield light. This was not pure CO2( sCan't advise you on welder but I would not recommend using BOC for gases, you have pay rental every month, regardless whether you're using the gas or not. te) and was supplied in a 300bar bottle, so the gas quantity was significantly higher than some others. I ran this deal for the last 12 years or so, and have just transferred the account and rates to a good friend who is another hobbyist. ndtman said:
