iTunes and iPhone backup and restore
Discussion
Hello Apple knowledgeable folk out there. My iphone 8 went wibbly wobbly whilst updating to 14.1. I did the hard reset and then attempted to restore my settings via itunes restore.
I got the "empty" phone working ok, but can't restore from itunes. After both online chat and a 1 hour telephone call from Apple all they can come up with is to delete & reinstall itunes. Before I try that (nothing to lose) I wonder if anybody else has come across this?
I back up to local machine, not cloud.
Screen 1:

On screen 2 the drop down box is supposed (I think) to list all the previous backups to pick from. I can't get it to populate

Before I uninstall itunes I'm also trying to find out where the backups are stored on my machine. (I suspect completely uninstalling itunes might remove these too, which will defeat the object)
Can anybody help me please?

Edit->Preferences... and then listed in a box in the Device Preferences Tab?
According to Apple my backups should be in my user/AppData/Roaming/AppleComputer/MobileSync/BackupI've no such folder. So now I'm thinking that whilst itunes has told me it's backing up, it actually isn't, which is why I can't restore?

Are you showing hidden items?I've no such folder. So now I'm thinking that whilst itunes has told me it's backing up, it actually isn't, which is why I can't restore?
I've never backed up on this PC but from what I remember there used to be a few backups listed in the box i mentioned.

So, I've removed itunes & reinstalled. I've backed up to both the local machine and the cloud & still not restore from either.
I'm now opening beer and giving up
So, just a heads up really.
Despite a few hours with Apple I never did get to the bottom of it. I now believe that despite iTunes telling me that it was backing up it actually wasn't.
I'd advise anybody to click the restore button to see if they are presented with previous backups, if they are not they may be in the same boat as me.
