Hi all having got back the love for biking this year with a Yamaha FZ1 gen 2 i’m thinking of getting an Aprilia Tuono v4. sort of 2012-2014ish. Does only one have one that they can give a few thoughts on please.

That's a disgraceful story - how can a bike with such low mileage be so expensively fked in such a short time? Some years I've done over 10,000 miles which is horrifying in terms of the potential lifespan of a Tuono...

If budget will stretch go 1100 which is 15 onwards. You get a tougher engine, better mid range, the bigger fuel tank that was on the latter 1000s and revised looks

Tbh its not much quicker but its more refined

I've had 5 Aprilia and 2 tuono 1100s. I did nearly 17k on my first in 2 1/2 years and I'm at 13k on my 19

They've never missed a beat

My brother has just bought a new 20 factory, he’d had the RR before for 3 years, he tracked it, toured on it and used it for general riding. It never missed a beat

I had a Ducati Multistrada 1000S. It had a warped fuel tank that I had to replace, a sidestand that was one day going to rip the engine apart, totally untrustworthy instrumentation and it ate components like rectifiers and starter motors. I got rid of it as the wife and I were going to Misano for the GP and we didn't trust it to get us there and back without fuss.

I still miss it. The ride, handling, brakes and peach of a motor made it, when it worked, one of the best bikes I can think of for pure road use. By the sounds of things I had better never try a Tuono...

I’ve not had my 19 Tuono Factory long enough to test reliability (six months and 4000 miles) but overall it is the best bike I’ve owned so far. Handling, power, comfort and ease of use all first class. Crap range, crap filler for the fuel tank and no fuel gauge are the only criticisms so far but they are only niggles.

Hi there!
Just registered to reply to this and express the love I have for this bike :P..

I absolutely love my Tuono V4. Its the 2014 version in white which is for me the best livery you can get on the available models, but again that's just me. Im sure the 2016 onwards are better but I don't like the look of them (neither does my bank account). I had a few other bikes before, all decent bikes but this one ticks most of the boxes, those being: Style, sound, handling, power, comfort.

I think the one thing I value the most about it is the shear power and respect the bike puts on me but at the same time if you play with the electronic gizmos enough you can get a reasonably soft bike, easy to ride in all weather conditions (though still with 130hp..). But then with the traction control off, wheelie control off engine map on track mode, the bike turns into an absolute mad psycho that doesn't give a crap what skills I have and just wants to go. I wouldn't say I am terrified when I have it in those settings but I'm definitely super careful which is exactly what I wanted, plenty of road to go before I grow out of it (which will most likely never happen).

All of this comes with a caveat: I HAVENT HAD THE BIKE SERVICED YET (since ownership). I had a bad experience before with a ridiculously high maintenance Ducati which gave me a bitter after taste of the whole experience (still haven't got rid of it though, love the bike with all its hissy fits).

So my advice is bite the bullet, this is that experience in motorcycling that you have to go through, like skydiving.. You might hate it, but you'll have to do it once in your lifetime. Probably a crappy advice aha, I've been told I am not the wisest man around.. Just my 2 cents!

Good luck!

2013 1000 v4 here. Non APRC. Sounds V. good on standard exhaust. Nimble, FAST! Reliable. Comfy with optional gel seat. Loads of torque. Engine is sexual.
Poor mpg... Need to fill up every 100 miles. Wouldn't want to be a pillion. Insurance is expensive. Zero space under seat.

Amazing machine. Buy one!
