Whilst only a maybe at the moment.

I am formulating a purchase of a weekend toy.

My daily driving is carried out by a very fast road focussed Megane F1 R26. I love it and if I'm honest. Even on the weekend, taking it out by myself, without the kids. It's brilliantly fun and focussed driving entertainment.

Off the back of loving it so much. I'd like to take this up a level or two if i can.

I've set a budget of 20k.

B Road blaster
A Road muncher

Handling and driving excitement is key.

Prefer 0-60 under 6 seconds.

I want a car that inspires confidence.

Light. Agile. Entertaining.

Manual preferably (driver engagement)

Two seats (if can inc. four at a push ok, but i know it won't be as focussed perhaps)

Prefer Coupe over Convertible as i think it's more focussed generall, lighter etc.

I also like a car that's a bit different
Stands out for it being a bit desirable, noise, presence etc.

What do people think?

I've always loved TVR for the noise and vibrancy and sheer craziness.

Wasn't sure how they drove though. Are they any good??

Whilst as a rule of thumb i am not a griffin badge fan. I like the vx220, its certainly different to their humdrum normal fair . Look a nice proposition and a bit different to Lotus. How are they for reliability?

In regards to my comment i like something that has presence, stands out. I do not mean loud (garish i mean, im quite happy with loud noise wise) or brash as such, more that it is recognised as something fellow enthusiasts would like and want to talk about - love engaging with people about the cars i drive.

A VX220 is such a different car to any other Vauxhall that its almost worth viewing it as a brand on its own!

Hmmm. I know the cayman is a good car. But I've seen 996 carreras for same kind of money. Kind of feel that would be the better buy??

Porsche 968? Lotus Exige (S2) if you can stretch to £25k-ish? You won't find a better drivers car than an Elise (eg a 111S) for your budget though obviously it's a convertible. Many come with hard tops.

Cayman vs 911 - you'll get a newer, potentially just as capable Cayman for that price I think. It would be the sensible choice but a car for the purposes you describe isn't really meant to be sensible...

370Z Nismo they're a proper drivers car & a nice fillet to you Megane: They have noise presence handle as well as a Z4M etc they're not the lightest but will blast down a A/B road & engage you whilst doing so.
The Gen1 is the more raw car & sounds like the one that you're looking for.
