Country pub/restaurant with rooms
Discussion
Instead of the usual birthday meal out for my wife we're looking for somewhere where we can also stay overnight. Her birthday is at the end of January so hopefully we'll be over the worst of this round of Covid and the restrictions it brings.
Seeking recommendations...
Happy to spend around £300-400. Food, drinks, bed and breakfast for 2
Somewhere within a 2 hour drive of the Woking area (J3 of the M3)
Country pub/restaurant type place with rooms - nothing too stuffy and not a big hotel with lots of rooms

Like the look of that. Rooms look nice if a little pricey. The Mad Monk said:
Bit far that one Stayed at a few of The Pig hotels, they are all fantastic. Food especially is amazing, they grow in the grounds a lot of what you eat, including the pigs!.
Somewhere local to me and a bit unusual, reviews a little mixed but views on a clear day are fantastic...

North Dorset, genuine independent establishment.
Can't vouch for the accommodation but I've been eating there regularly for over ten years and never had a bad meal. Put it this way, it is the first place we went after Lockdown.

I’d recommend the rooms at the Castle but the Falcon 2miles away is far superior for foodhttps://castleatedgehill.co.uk/

I used to love this place when I worked near Bath about 15 years ago. The pub still looks like a great place. They have a few rooms available too, great location and views. They used to do a cider called 'black rat'..i tried it a few times but could never remember how it tastes..

This is my local, couple of hundred yards away. Just outside (couple of miles) the New Forest to the West but still in a AONB.

Good solid food, not flash, but local stuff. Never had a bad meal. Nice Romanian family run it, very friendly.
