I understand supermarkets, pharmacies etc. but how can HSL say they are essential, they are a furniture store, a tad specialist perhaps but having to wait 4 weeks to order one is not going to change anyone's life.
I think closing shops is a mistake but if they do it then they must enforce it.

Some HSL furniture is for people with medical needs - so they will probably get round it that way.

My local (Indy) wine merchant is open - had a wander around the shop yesterday.

Essential obvs rolleyes

Seems to be that it's just closing pubs and restaurants, and some clothes shops.

I took the dog for a walk yesterday into town and you would not have known we are under lockdown smile

There was even a busker belting out songs.

Garden centres are allowed to stay open which I am quite pleased about but how they can be classed as essential is baffling.

I guess for people who grow their own food it's essential to plant it at the right time and nurture it.

Mental health benefits were being called out as a reason on R4 the other day.

Personally I think it’s great that this time people are just cracking on with it, making their own judgements on risk. It’s a shame that the hospitality sector will bear the brunt of this latest nonsense.

HSL - medical equipment
Garden centres - mental health, in the same class as DIY shops (fixing fences etc) and also, normally very big, lots of outside space and so very low risk.

I don’t thing tattoo places should be open.

Tattoo places are required to close - Part 2, "20. Tattoo and piercing parlours."

On my local FB group I have seen that a few local beauticans have said they will remain open. I think the types of people who run them are susceptible to conspiracy/sovereign citizen nonsense.

Nope they are trying to keep their business afloat and making money to allow them to feed themselves and live. But that seems to be a crime these days. But massive global companies amazon for one can carry on making billions but yea lets fk over the little people.
Good on them I say.

Balloon and greeting card shop open near me.
As a business owner I can't blame them, any excuse to keep going.

Smyths toy shops are closed, because obviously if you step foot in there to by some Lego from Xmas you will literally die. Except if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, which is fine. Or if you buy the same product from Asda instead.

The strange thing there were signs saying “essential travel only” so although they are allowed to stay open I would hardly say it is an essential journey. Just an anomaly of where we are at the moment I suppose.

Bit like the Harlow gym owner - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/am... .
In some of the videos of it, she seems to have gone full Freeman Of The Land over it. Probably got references to the Magna Carta pinned up smile

That sounds quite snobbish TBH. My daughter works in a hair and beauty salon. The place is spotless, cleaned top to bottom every day with each workstation cleaned between clients. But they are forced to close by the government when the whole industry is demonstrably a very low transistor of the virus.

Indeed - I don't think anyone has diode as a result of visiting a hair salon. You'd have to triac very hard to get infected I'm sure.

No they are a furniture shop like DFS.

They don't sell wheel chairs or incontinence pads.

No, but they do make & sell furniture which can alleviate certain medical conditions.
