My Aston Martin took a dip and totally failed, nothing worked at all. So after a great deal of effort, everything has been cleaned up, battery changed, work done on the engine, all fuses are fine, as are all relays, I believe.

I am now left with the following issues.

1) no mileage or text on the two displays on the odometer

2) Will not change from Neutral to any other gear

3) will not crank or start

4) glove box and All other things operate well

5) ODB II scanner called up two faults.

Both are shift solenoid faults control circuits e & f
Are high.

Any help to further locate and diagnose this error would be really appreciated.

Many thanks in anticipation

Scrap it!

And then learn a lesson from it.

You could be pumping many many thousands into an unfixable car.

It’s a rare version, you do not scrap cars like this!

The display issues suggest you have an electrical or electronic failure. That's going to need some specialist skills or an expensive parts cannon to fix.

For the transmission issues I suggest you start by tackling the fault codes you know about and see if that helps.

You’ve obviously gone to a lot of effort on a rare and valuable car. One that basis, 1 or 2 hours labour at a good Aston specialist on their diagnostics machine has got to be worth a shout? Hopefully it’ll give you a steer towards what’s next.

Took a dip? Are you saying it's been flooded?

Yes, the engine stopped at idling speed in deep
Water, started having a look at this, and
Doing a bit more work, Looking into the engine, there are no signs of any problems with the spark plugs, although there is water present in the head, so I am guessing the engine is hydro locked.

Watch this space for more!

Possibly. But a hydrolocked engine won’t explain the lack of information on the dash, that combined with the gearbox fault codes suggests a can bus fault. A can bus fault combined with taking a dip means a control module has almost certainly been fried.

Having recently watched this video https://youtu.be/VF3s0uZ7ok0

I can see the logic of what Megaflow's saying, even though the issue is well outside of my field of expertise.

Perhaps have a watch of it, see if it seems familiar, if your 'box has a similar module on its underside, as this car does; there's surely a fair chance its immersion in water has caused it to fry.

A channel recently recommended to me here on Pistonheads. The guy is good !

And beware of the 'Money-Pit' scenario. I guess as an Aston owner got quite a bit of it, but no-one wants to burn it in a way that causes a world of grief in doing so; someone 'll take it on (at a fraction of its value of course), if you want to get shot.

Sounds like it's in a really sorry state - if the engine's been hydrolocked then any control module that isn't inside the cabin (assuming that's not full of water) could've been completely immersed.

If you can't DIY then I'd be prepared for very big bills indeed - if you can, I'd strip every wiring loom out you can, along with the control modules, and get them dried out and tested ASAP. It could be that the water is causing a short circuit that will be sorted if you clean and dry them out.

Hi all,

Many thanks for all of the feed back on this, all very useful.

So Here is the update. I decided as we are in lockdown
And I have quite a few years experience in engineering and a good understanding of electronics, I would hire
A ramp and take a good look at this.

After a few weeks of hard work, And stripping the car down, replacing many parts, she now starts and drives,
With very few errors left.

The dreaded glove box and satnav.

I am so so happy right now!
