Audi A1 p2458 code

My sons A1 has went into limp mode , flashing coil and eml light plus dpf light.
The code suggests DPF full and will not Regen. I have tried to erase the code but it will not let me,
it immediately returns.
I am thinking about removing the dpf and have it cleaned, is there any other ways before I do this.
I have taken it for a good run of over forty miles but because the codes won't erase It will not regen
He wants to sell this car and return to a petrol one as he only does short jouneys
