Looking to buy a used car from a dealer, I've seen one for sale which on the surface looked to fit the bill - FSH, lowish mileage with great spec. Until I looked a little deeper and saw the MOT had a 16 month gap and 5 owners in 5 years..

On its own the 5 owners in 5 years isn't a problem for me, but with the combination of the MOT gap I think resale could be an issue even though the plan is to keep it for 4+ years

Would you walk or offer less based on the above if everything else seemed above board?

Does seem a bit odd.

The March 2019 owner bought it with less than 3 months MOT.

And the December 2019 owner, bought it with no MOT and continued to run it for 10 months without one. Or bought it to look at smile

No sign of a recent repair ?

Maybe it's been sat with a dealer for months? They don't mot them unless they sell them.

Covid MOT extension

Owner 4 had it for 1 day!

COVID extension would only apply to cars with MOT due in 2020. MOT for 19-20 would not be affected by this.

This was what I was thinking, that its been sat a a dealer for a while - but I thought they got the MOT done asap? That's what the current garage has done

I'm viewing it today but the seller sent a detailed video and everything looked straight, definitely seems like its not done much mileage over the last year and a bit

Which vcheck was that - the 2.99 one or the full 9.99 one?

The full £10 one - can't say I expected this info as its not something I've seen before so it may be on the 2.99 report also

They don't MOT or service them until they have a sale - at least thats what they've told me when I've asked. That way they can offer 12month MOT (and can usually push through any small faults as its MOT'd by their own garage!) as a selling point. Otherwise they'd potentially have to MOT and service it twice if sat for a while. The only thing they do straight away is wash it and do any repairs to the paint/bodywork required for advert pictures.
