What's your biggest share failure 2020?
Discussion
2020 has been a great year for share dealings if you want to make or lose money ...
I thought it might be interesting to share the pain rather than listening to someone who always likes posting when they got on the bandwagon rather than jump ship until it was too late. Or wave goodbye to the ship from the dock thinking it will hit an iceberg only to find out it was full of coke and hookers and actually was unsinkable ...

Mine of the last week has been selling my Wizz shares early Monday morning, whilst sending a ping to my mate in the USA saying "well as long as they don't discover a vaccine whilst I don't own them"

The tears I wept could have filled Spongebob up 3 times over.
Also this week my BYND shares, the guys who make meat out of cabbages, or soilent green or whatever went down the pan as Mcdonalds decided to so their own plant based Mc burger.
The marketing guys At McDonalds have the easiest job in the world. After a brainstorming session on a Friday before the pubs opened ( or didn't, due to Covid) they called theirs
McPLant.
And that stupid name sank my BYND shares whilst I was out on a dog walk. No happy meal for me tonight.
First rule of Day trading ... don't do dog walking. Hire a dogwalker.
And that's just the last two days.
Anyone want to share their biggest stock market failures of 2020? The funnier / tear jerking the better.

Not an individual share but I decided in early Feb that it would be a good time to introduce my teenage son to investing by buying some funds with the cash sitting in his junior ISA.
A few weeks later, the equity funds had dropped around 20% and the bond fund was down 3%.
Glad we kept invested though because all funds are now positive and one (Blackrock Next Gen Tech) is up nearly 60%.
Within hindsight it was a perfect introduction to volatility and risk - if he had paid attention, which he didn't.

Nikola. I bought in right as market opened following GM partnership news, I was up quite well by the afternoon, then the Hindenburg report landed and I lost hundreds the next day.
Same except I bandwaggon jumped as i had missed out on every other EV stock that had gone up when I had waited and thought about it. Clearly the company that had the info to destroy their rep planned it for maximum damage just after the stock peaked they released their news and they of course had a massive short on it...
Porsche also owe me a chunk of cash as twice i have bought high sold low and they regain almost a day or 3 later.
I dumped my year‘s max allocation into the Swiss equivalent of a SIPP in Q1. Mainly in January and February, wanting time in the market rather than trying to time the market. It‘s just about recovered now, but I‘d be in a better place if I‘d drip fed throughout the year.
Arguably worse was paying for an expensive holiday earlier than needed as I liked where the CHF/GBP rate was in January and am now stuck with a BA voucher which is worth quite a bit less in CHF than it was in January and I have no idea whether I‘ll be able to use it before BA go pop!

Metro Bank - bought them when they were about 90% down from peak.
Never dreamed they could go down another 70% from there !!
But no real disaster I only ever put small amounts into individual shares, just for a bit of fun. Have more than made up for it with returns on funds.
Also Metro seems to be showing some signs of a recovery in the last few days.
Supply@me Capital SYME, is currently looking like it will be my next disaster. :-)

Major fail - Rolls Royce from my time there, plus bonus shares, plus extra shares in the share scheme.........then forgetting to update my e-mail after I left and not getting in on share splits a few years ago and now.
However, the salary money earnt whilst flying a desk doing a none role there was free money for many years so swings and roundabouts!
Bought Elanco and Pfizer in March knowing their previous histories in vaccine / antibiotics treatment. Got out both yesterday (need cash at the mo......). Av gains 33% and 45% for a 7 month trawl.
Keeping Shell and BP for now which have been 30 year stalwarts on the divis, but heart says keep one of each and dump the rest.

I was quite heavily invested in the travel & leisure sector and all looked very healthy when Greene King were taken over at 850p a share in Nov '19.
Fast forward to March '20 - Marston's, Mitchells & Butlers and Restaurant Group now haven't performed quite so well...
I won't talk about BP or Imperial Brands
Oh well, this is a long game, right!?!?

Shell. Complete disaster.
They’ve recovered well the last few daysMy biggest loser was ftse funds (F you, diversification) in my sipp and bp/shell in my ISA. Dumped shell, doubled down on BP and BAE (under £4 last week).
SIPPs are all back up well above jan/mar highs, thanks to tech. ISA still down 22%.
I'm the kiss of death on the fashion industry:
Koovs - (never take investment advice from the Daily Mail) now deader than a Norwegian Blue.
Ted Baker - Well 'Ted Groper' all but did that in, although there have been a couple of positive blips in the last few days.
Boohoo - Not the heady gains they should have had, thanks to two scandals so far, this year. Still in the blue, just...
ASOS - I still have, so get ready to bail before I curse them too!
As for others:
Burford Capital - Still not recovered from the Muddy Waters exposé last year. I really thought the listing on Wall Street might give them a lift, but no.
Sirius Minerals and Amerisur. I thought I was buying for the long haul, but both got bought out before the rewards could be reaped for enduring the pain.
My problem is I'm too much of an optimist and need to learn to bail out at the first sign of an engine coughing.
It really is time I found something cheaper than investing to be not very good at.

This one burned me too. I'm quite new to investing so this one on top of Woodford Equity Income was at least useful to see how I coped psychologically seeing a massive drop. BlackG7R said:
