Hi all.

As a new member of this forum I thought I'd make my first post. I've recently bought a '96 N 993 C2 Coupe and am currently getting into the groove. First impressions are really good and I'm having a hoot. My last car was a BMW M Coupe and I cannot even compare the two of them, they are just so different. I love the 993's bottom end power and the growl from the K&N filter / open airbox. The pedals feel 'odd' but I'm getting used to them slowly.

Anyway to my questions. The car has the RS body kit fitted inc. the fixed rear spoiler. When I'm driving I keep getting the rear spoiler warning light come on. I've not sussed a pattern yet, it appears random. There are two connectors doing nothing in the engine compartment which I assume used to connect the power spoiler (one has 4 pins, one has 2 pins). Does anyone know how I can stop the warning light coming on?

Another quickie. The car has 18" BBS LeMan wheels fitted. I've checked the owners manual which states tyre pressures of 36psi front / 44psi rear. Can anyone confirm this or offer any experience.

That's it for now. Look forward to getting posting over the coming months.

Cheers,
Martin.

I've now sussed a pattern to the spoiler light issue. The light comes on when the car is started. It then goes off when you start moving. It comes back on again over a certain speed (60mph ish) and goes out again when you slow down sufficiently (i.e. about 10mph).

I'm guessing that since the RS spoiler was fitted after market and the standard spoiler motor and sensor were removed the microswitch movement sensors and not there anymore.

Does anyone know how I can bypass the circuit that the sensors are normally fitted to? I don't think I can simply take the bulb out of the warning light as the information warning light will still come on.

p.s. I'm still curious about tyre pressues for 18" wheels.

Cheers, Martin.

Martin...

The warning light comes on upon engine start up and stays illuminated for about 10 seconds, that`s normal with electric or fixed rear spoilers.

There are two ways to disable the rear spoiler malfunction warning light, which will come on at 50 mph if your car has a fixed spoiler and has not been fitted with a by-pass.

Check out www.p-car.com for the DIY fix wiring loom by-pass.

I beleive that there is an even easier fix to be had by unplugging a lead under the dash somewhere, but I`m no auto electrican.

Just press the ! button in the centre console to get rid otherwise!

Enjoy!

I'd be interested to know if anyone has had an issue with this light coming on, who still has the original up/down spoiler. Mine has been coming on for a while but I was told that it was just an electrical problem with the sensor rather than a problem with the spoiler itself, and would cost about 600 Euros (ouch) to fix. The alternative was just to put up with the light.

I chose the latter and have now got used to the main warning light coming on (the bulb on the spoiler warning light has long since blown through over use I guess!), and pressing the override button each time...

Anyone else had it, why, and any potential problems I'm creating for myself???

Thanks for the response. I tried this last night (made the link wire using a 5.25" computer disk power lead as suggested on p-car) and it works a treat. Mine was easy 'cos the original cabling still went to the spoiler area. Light no longer coming on other than when the car is started.

Now about those tyre pressures. Anyone got any views on 36psi front / 44psi rear with 18" BBS split rims?

Cheers,
Martin

Those tyre pressures ae high, but experiment. I am currently running 30F 34R which I like, but may increase to 34F 38R if I can be bothered to fiddle
