Wife has had a Nexus 9 (and previously a Nexus7) for quite a few years now but it's playing up and having aquired an iphone earlier in the year she is now hankering after an iPad....
I have no knowledge of these (or most Apple stuff being Windows and Android).
What's the best option, taking into account cost as well as performance, there seems to be many, she uses it mainly for surfing, emails, bank account, stuff like that.
Thanks for any input you may be able to provide

From what you say her usage is I reckon you'd get away with just the standard £329 iPad. I've got a 2019 iPad Air and it's a brilliant thing. If budget isn't a question then I'd probably go for the 2020 iPad Air for the better A14 chip that'll handle future PadOS's for a while longer.

Does it have to be iPad?? I needed to replace my stolen iPad Air1, I purchased the Huawei media pad m5 lite
4gb ram 64gb with micro sd card slot. Far better than iPad Air2 that the wife has. Huawei is selling it for £179 from their website at the moment.
The last of the google ones, all the newer ones don't support google.

I got the "cheap" iPad on Monday, went for the 128gb one as I didn't think there would be much left after the OS had taken it's chunk.

Coming from Android, i've chucked loads of apps on to try out, & it's on 16.2gb used at the minute. (System is 6.4gb)

Now watching black friday for these. Will a 64GB suffice or is the 128GB a necessity

I find for an iPad 64gb is more than enough.

Currently on 16.6 used, so unless you’re planning on having music/multiple hd films etc, I’d say you’d be fine.

When is the next mini likely to make an appearance? I’ve got a v2 and it’s starting to struggle a bit now.

Only use it for browsing and watching downloaded tv programs.

I'd say 64 would be fine. We're still running an iPad (yes, the very first one smile) and an iPad2, both with 16Gb and they've never been full.

Given that they are only used now for my daughter to play games on, see no real need to upgrade. Only problem is they both only have about 5hrs of battery life left.

iPad mini 5 was released March’19 ... the 4 was September’15 ... they have tended to be on much longer cycles than the regular iPad models.

Wife has a mini from whenever they came out, 16gb I think and has never had trouble.

I inherited a 512gb (I think) massive iPad Pro and use less than 64gb hehe

It's a tad slow but it still runs what she wants. For a 10 year old tablet I think it's mighty impressive running iOS 5.1.1. It's built like a brick outhouse too which helps when being used by a disabled 15 year old. That said, I've only just replaced my 2012 MPB because it's GPU died so I do like keeping things a long time.

As I said, only issue is the decreasing battery life, some days (when she sits there playing loads of music and video trailers from the store) she can kill both it and the iPad 2 batteries in a day smile. Really should replace them with a new one if for no other reason than to add Apple Music (not possible on 5.1.1.) to it for her which she would love but seems happy with the clips on the store so I'm being cheap smile

So probably a while before the next one then. Maybe I should take a look at an Air.

Go for the iPad Air 4 rather than the bare bones one.
