Came across this on the AstonMartin Cambridge website:

36 month Personal Contract Hire agreement example for a Aston Martin DBX with a contract mileage of 18,000 miles.
35 monthly rentals of £2,145.43
Term of agreement: 36 months
Initial Rental £19,308.91
Annual mileage 6,000
Excess mileage 46.18 per mile (exc. VAT)

I presume the rentals are incl VAT. My maths makes that around £90k to rent a DBX over 3 years? £30k a year, £5 per mile.

Does that seem a bit expensive or am I out of touch with reality? Edit - or is my maths wrong?

I suppose comparing with an outright purchase at about £160,000, then the main dealer retail after 3 years might be around 60% ie. £95,000. Trade-in value therefore about £85,000. Depreciation cost £75,000.

The 6,000 annual mileage condition might be restrictive for many though.

By no means an expert on car finance, but believe there are significant contract differences between PCP and PCH.

I thought hire meant hire. You pay, you give it back, the end.

I’m no expert and can’t comment on PCH etc. but £160k would be a very basic spec. More like £180k last time I looked at one with a few desirable extras. The HWM JWW version is £200k

Sounds logical to me.

There was a topic here a long time ago, something about a man who thought he could hand back his Aston Martin (as I believe might be possible with PCP), but having not read the entire contract, was told he had to pay the end lump sum. He was somewhat cross and considering he had been tricked, aired his woes in a Sunday newspaper. He did not get much sympathy on here though.

I’d expect the finance example to be based on the lowest price they could get away with so the numbers look more compelling. Start adding options, ‘only’ few £ a month more sir....
