991.2 GT3 – Extended warranty (or not) at 3 years ??
Discussion
My 991.2 GT3 is coming up 3 years old at the end of the year. The car is not tracked, is well looked after, and does about 2000 miles a year. I am thinking to either continue the warranty straightaway at 3 years - or wait until the 4-year service and do it then, saving c. £900.
I would appreciate any thoughts.

My OPC quoted
1 yr warranty extension is £1020 plus £175 Porsche Assist.
2 yr warranty extension is £1840 plus £285 Porsche Assist.
Problem with leaving it until your car is 4 years old you will be out of warranty for 1 year and you will then also incur the OPC 111 point qualifying warranty check cost of c £200.

Don't you get that £200 charge anyway whenever you take out the extended warranty?Problem with leaving it until your car is 4 years old you will be out of warranty for 1 year and you will then also incur the OPC 111 point qualifying warranty check cost of c £200.

Taking the 2 year option and syncing it with servicing and hopefully negating the inspection fee is the cheapest and most convenient/cheapest.
I've done this before but obviously took the obsurd risk of running year 3-4 with no warranty!
I can't particularly see why a non tracked gen 2 GT3 would be more of a risk than any other modern Porsche? Maybe that's a big risk?!
Depends perhaps if you intend to keep it less or more than 2 years.

I think definitely worth it. I had it on my 997.1, and had a couple things fixed which made it worth it.
I'm not sure it has been worth it on my 981 as it has had absolutely no problem. It's incredible that these warranties cost £1000/yr roughly regardless of whether it's an old or new car, or a GT3 or base 981!

The flip side of everything that has been said is that you are doing a mere 2000 miles a year and not taking the car on track. It's highly unlikely you will need a warranty. Mines 2.5 years old and is nearly on 20,000 miles. I have several other Gt cars of varying generations and I have never extended a warranty on any of them and I never had an issue. I would appreciate any thoughts.

You can take out an extended warranty well before the 3 year factory one has expired. If you combine a one year extension with the first service at 2 years, warranty and service will be in sync at 4 years and thereafter should you wish to continue. Negotiate the 111 point as part of the first service cost.I've done this before but obviously took the obsurd risk of running year 3-4 with no warranty!
