Van plus handheld police speed check on same road

Came across a camera van and around 50 meters further down the road a few police with a hand held unit, if the van caught someone speeding (has an unobstructed view of a couple of hundred meters down the road) then would the police down the road pull the driver over and issue a verbal warning/fine or is it a case of waiting 14 days for a NIP in the post?
Pretty sure I wasn't exceeding the limit but the road is quite wide for a 30mph so easy for the speed to creep up slightly without realising.

I can only guess that is some sort of joint ANPR and speed operation so I can only again guess that if you haven't been stopped you will not hear anything.
I can also only guess that the residents of that street have been complaining of speeding so the police are having a highly visible crackdown.

Joking apart, I used to get taken around the park as a kid, we loved the squirrels and vaguely remember the waterfall.
Pointless to have a camera van and a stop brigade working together at the same time, it defeats the object of having one man in a van and using the postal NIP route to save on manpower, also 50 yards is way too close to the van to radio the message and stop a vehicle safely. In a stop they would normally have an officer operating the device and another 1 or 2 at least 2-300 yards further down the road as stoppers. Looks to me like 2 separate jobs being done, normal camera van operation and also ANPR being carried out for insurance checks, vehicle markers etc, maybe some training going on as well from the numbers involved

As my previous post I would suggest the van is working independently as normal, so it maybe an uncomfortable 2 week wait for you, post back here if you receive anythingMrBig said:

The Police check could be for the smart a$$es who spotted the van, slowed down then sped up again thinking they've outsmarted the law only to then be caught by the Police check further down the road.
If you've been caught by both the van and the Police speed check then you have been unlucky but you will only be done with the one offence as its the same journey and the checks were only a short distance apart.

I'd say it's more likely that the van is looking for no Tax/insurance/MOT - The Police up the road then get notified of the vehicles being used illegally, and pull them in to deal with them.The Police check could be for the smart a$$es who spotted the van, slowed down then sped up again thinking they've outsmarted the law only to then be caught by the Police check further down the road.

Or, it could be a case of the van catching drivers speeding, and the Police up the road then issuing a verbal NIP.
This would then give the Police 6 months to bring a case against the driver, instead of 14 days to get a NIP sent out.
With all the current COVID/lockdown/Furlough issues, this would sense, as it makes it far easier to implement the prosecution process, with less time pressure.
