VW Polo gti 2014, this last week the interior lights have refused to extinguish when closing doors or starting the engine, only way to turn lights off is to switch the manual button to off; this applies to both front and rear compartment lights. The days of the good old door plunger switch are gone and I imagine that somewhere there is a fancy electronic switch that is malfunctioning, can someone give me a clue what I should be looking for to put this right.
Many thanks.

No, nothing like that at all, in fact nothing else untoward.

The door light switches are built into the door latch itself. These do fail, you can either replace the switch themselves if you're handy, or the whole latch.

If whoever services your car is prone to spraying grease all over the latch, you can sometimes resurrect them by flushing the mess out.

Thanks for the tip, not much evidence of grease on the latches, but have given them a good clean and a dose of WD40. Will have to wait a day or two as the car is not getting used much due to the lockdown, will report back if there is an improvement.
