Warranty query

Just bought a used A6 Avant (C7), I've had the car 3 weeks and it has developed an intermittent parking brake fault during the last few days.

Looking at the warranty provided as part of the sale, Autoguard Premium, some of the likely root causes (having checked online for similar faults) are excluded from the warranty.

I understand that the dealer (not Audi but another franchised manufacturer) must cover all faults within the first 3 months, although I've heard it may be 6 here in NI.

Anyone know if this 3 or 6 months of mandatory dealer warranty is superceded by the Autoguard warranty?

I'll be booking the car into a local garage for repair for initial diagnosis as the dealer who sold the car is a +90min drive away. Autoguard let you book it into any VAT registered garage.

My A7 had the same fault, I ended up paying an Audi Specialist to sort it.
I couldn't find where the unit was even with an Endoscope! Its buried under the floor trim somewhere?
Lots of rear trim to remove apparently.
Part plus 2 hours labour and vat was £300 ish. I think the part alone (its a small ECU), was £175ish.
The A6 should be much more accessible. Clip out, clip in part. So minimum labour.
A lot of revised parts so it has to be the most recent.
Came with a 2 year warranty.

Check the warranty terms first.

Some require it to be X days after purchase to stop traders/dealers just using warranty claims to fix issues they knew were present at sale.

You may also want to talk to the supplying dealer/trader...

If you want to go via the dealer rather than the warranty, you need to give the dealer a chance to sort it - and that will involve driving the car back to them.

Driving in to work this morning, the particulate filter came warning came on, 2nd time in a week. I burned it out last week on a drive at 2000pm, 120 odd miles later it's on again. Confidence in the car is very low.

I've contacted the dealer and am returning it to them for investigation on Monday.

I hope you get a result from the dealer, in the past I have known it happen that people end up in a situation where dealer says contact warranty company and warranty company say pre existing fault go back to the garage.

Update: emailed dealer this morning, raised the issues and quoted the Consumer Rights Act, they have offered to take the car back with a full refund. Was expecting more push back.

A shame as I have been wanting an A6 Avant for a while but this has really put me off now.

Look for a better one.
They are usually very reliable. Lot of car and a nice place to be.

So, having handed the car back on Monday, the dealer has it for sale again for £400 more than it was originally advertised for and £800 more than I paid for it, chancers.

Going to see another A6 Avant tomorrow so fingers crossed this works out better than the last one.

What else were they going to do with it? Good for them for the unchallenged refund though.

Don't get me wrong, fully expect them to move it on again, but it was slightly overpriced when I bought it, I paid a little bit more than I wanted and what others were priced at because it ticked all of the boxes. To then price it higher than originally is a bit of a stretch IMHO....

I had the same but a Passat. After quick offer of a refund from the VW garage they asked did I want anything else from their stock, but now there wasn't owt I was after.

Four days later in comes another Passat the same as mine that had "under warranty" had the parking brake fault fixed a year previous. I was shown the paperwork (it was a different car definitely) and then on handover and previous price honoured.

I saw my "old" car on the forecourt for £600 more than I'd seen it advertised and £800 more than I paid. I asked was that correct and got told "oh yes sir", but we have had to spend x on it as the cars warranty had expired...on a 30 mo old VW? Mind they were the most ste garage ever and after getting away from them and using an indie after 6 years and 200,000 miles I half thought about dumping my now battered scruffy but still workhorsey Passat on the road outside their dealership and writing in paint "will swap for chicken shed" but as Evans Halshaw offered me £675 for it even with the DMFW judderring like an epileptic on a vibration plate I was denied the chance of petty revenge by the lust of cold hard cash.
