Targa ‘Mayfair Edition’ on Collecting Cars - M18KEG
Discussion

This auction starts tonight and I’m thinking of trying to win it.
It looks to me that the passenger seat has a fairly large stain on the houndstooth material and I just could not live with seeing that every time I got in the car. What are the options & costs for cleaning/repairing this? The back of the passenger seat also looks quite worn - so same question for that.
Before I get too excited, do you think the fact it’s a limited edition will justify a significant additional premium over a similarly spec’d Targa? The fact it’s a limited edition means little to me, I just really like the spec.
Would be keen to hear any thoughts on the car especially if somebody happens to know it.

If I remember correctly these were all ordered by OPC Matfair, I remember seeing one in the showroom at the time. So it's not a "Factory" Limited Edition...but ten cars ordered by an OPC to an identical spec. They then put a marketing twist on it and sell them at a premium. Worth no more than another nicely specced Targa now.
This guy does repairs for my OPC https://www.davethetrimmer.com/
Don't know if they do repairs but Southbound have a good reputation https://www.southboundtrimmers.com/index.htm

Thanks. I’ll see if I can find out a bit more about the stain and then get in touch to see if they can help. This guy does repairs for my OPC https://www.davethetrimmer.com/

Care to have a guess as to what it’ll achieve?
Just wanted to say, that's a lovely specification car trim wise). Personally I think it manages to pull that look off quite well. You should also note that if the hounds-tooth does it for you (like it does it for me) you won't find many about as 99% of non-GT 991s are leather inside.
Having said that, the car in the ad looks relatively "worn" for the mileage. I see more nicks and marks in the various leather panels than I would be happy with for the age and mileage. I know the leather on the doors, dash etc of my 997 marks somewhat easily but I'm not sure that even with 6x the mileage I have as many marks.
One has just come on for £112k at OPC Cardiff. Absolutely mental money imo. Spec editions like this are cars some people think are an easy way into ‘limited’ Porsche’s thinking they’ll make some money, but likely never do (except the first buyer).
ETA: also would agree with the above, doesn’t look that well looked after which may well be why it’s on CC.

Where are you seeing a stain, on the passenger seat back, that looks like a reflection coming back through the window screen.Couldn't see them trying to sell it with a bad stain on the seat.
EDITYes, see what your saying now as have gone through all the pics.Ask the seller the question.Other than that its in great order, full leather dash as well.

It’s not the seat back, although, as has been mentioned here, that does look pretty worn. The houndstooth material looks stained in a few photos including #104. Could be a shadow I suppose.
Seems like if the OPC car is anything to go by, this may go for more than I would be happy to pay. That was a short lived dream.
Well...... That my friend is an absolute belter !
I'm not any marks on the dash top or the door cards, The sill plates are a nice touch as is the cup holder lettering, floor mats and the centre console embossed highlights the 'EXCLUSIVE" appeal.
It's not a GT car...... so to some it will never be that kind of Excusive, but for a drop top, wide body and 4S there's not much that to sniff at, The marks on the rear of passenger seat possibly due to a lap top bag, maybe even a Golf bag or similar, personally...... your never going to see it AND probably never going to have any one one sat there and my guess is the first time you drive it you will forget about the marks.
The seat stain..... looks like "SOL GLO" but most likely its a wet patch from when the roof has come back.
The houndstooth i like..... I've thought about it in mine.
If it's GT SILVER then get it bought !!!!!! and enjoy !
I bet a good detailer would remove the marks on the seats (I think there’s one on the driver’s side as well).
I think it’s in slightly uncharted territory price-wise so I’d use the value of a standard age/mileage Targa as the benchmark & be senisible. I see Top555 have a later turbo charged car an advertised incl. same colour & trim for £99,950 but a “67” plate & w/o the X51 pack or PCCBs etc. It’s also how much you value the normally aspirated car “high spec” car at especially when it’s not say a GTS which is acknowledged as the better driver's car. I also think I would want to know genuinely why both doors were repainted as this could effect the “collectibility” of it in the future (surely if it were “special” they’d have taken pics before they had the work done).
Interesting reading for the OP here...

So I know the DP who commissioned these and discussed these cars at the time. Your understanding is not my understanding. The Car is based upon the original Targa Floria first and not only was it done with the Porsche Exclusive department, it was a limited car direct from Porsche and badged accordingly.
I don’t know how you get more “factory” than that.
The other misunderstood element is that it is not simply a “a nicely specced Targa” because some options were never available unless you went through Porsche Exclusive. Whether you place value in that is whether it’s right car for you.

I think it should be priced as a very nicely specced Targa. Nothing on that car that I can see on that car wouldn’t have been available through Porsche Exclusive for any car apart from the badge on the trim strip saying “Exclusive Mayfair Edition” and the script on the door.
It’s not a 911 but I have a Macan sat on my drive which is a similar edition it’s an “Exclusive Performance Edition”...has bespoke interior and exterior features only available on that car etc etc each OPC only got one. Was an official factory product not one for an OPC. It’s worth no more than any other car with a nice spec.
Like others have said, this is just a high spec car ordered in a batch of 10 by a opc.
It’s not a factory limited edition car, it’s a car anyone could of specified if they wanted to when new.
I see no reason why anyone would pay a large premium over any other nicely specified targa in the same condition.

At £68k plus commission with 5 days to go it’s not far off retail £s IMO for a normal Targa of its age. From the pictures of the wear it looks like it’s been a car driven for lots of short journeys. For the OP, I’d be asking to see the last “condition report” that I think the servicing OPC would supply to show the tyre condition as the car could be heading for “top money” & you’d want to know exactly how many mm of tread are remaining as the last MOT had an advisory on both rear tyres for side wall damage so I’d also be asking have the wheels been refurbished at any time?
It’ll be interesting to see where this ends price-wise.....

I’ve asked the questions on CC but no answers yet. Totally up to the vendor but if I had a car up for sale I’d be all over the Q&A. It’ll be interesting to see where this ends price-wise.....
Anyway, looks like there might be people out there willing to pay a premium for this car so I’ll likely miss out.
Hi,
I too have asked questions re the targa.
Not all answered and I do find the seller swapping from I to We seems a little odd.
Also using the typical “known” in terms of condition ‘ damage etc.
One would surely expect the owner of a one owner/low miles car to know whether any damage or not?
May be completely innocent but enough to curtail my interest.
I also agree with others that a not overly loved London car and could be a multi user car?
