Hi all. I stripped and cleaned the carbs on my 99 R6, couldn't get the thing started and thought I would come back to it and sort it out.

Roll on 5 years and I have taken another look. Unfortunately it seems the carbs where no back on properly and I have got some crap in the intake(?)

That one seems to be worst, although presumably that is because that piston is closed and all the crap has just fallen down inside the other 3.
Also apologies for the crap picture, but to the right seems to be loose crap, and to the left seems to be dried rusty residue.

Is this buggered? If not what is the next step?
I have looked online at new engines... Not looking good! And I would prefer to fix it if possible, but not really sure where to start.

Has it been stored outside? Was it running when you took the carbs off and put it away?

You could get lucky and it'll be limited amounts of crap, although having tried to start it you could've done much more damage.

Best thing to do is get the engine out, head off and have a good look at what's going on.

Air nozzle down the intake port and blast crap out. Plugs out. Crank engine over a bit. Reassemble and ride as normal.

To clarify, I have not tried it start it since taking the carbs off 5 years ago. I knew the carbs needed to come off so didnt even try.
So hopefully it will be a case of opening the engine up and giving it a clean?

Before taking the carb off it was running fine on idle, but died as soon as I revved it, so I thought the carb needed cleaning (really wish I had not done that)
Then when I put it back together it would not run right at all.

I really hope it is that easy!

Ah yeah, if it's not been started I'd get it blown out thoroughly to see what comes out, and maybe one of those cheap USB bore scopes to see how clean it ends up.
