My Playstation Plus account expired today, normally I'd just renew it (or more accurately it would auto renew, I'd kick myself, apply for a refund and then go to CD Keys to save a tenner after disabling auto renew yet again) but every year Black Friday comes along a couple of weeks later and I'm annoyed that even better deals are usually available.

I went to CDKeys as usual and noticed their 12 month code was now £44.99 (compared to Sony's £49.99) rather than the £39.99 I paid last year (it's a paltry £23.29 for a US code!) so thought I'd buy a 14 day "trial" code for 99p to take me to Black Friday and then see if any deals were available.

The code came through, the PS Store accepted it but my PS Plus membership hasn't extended and still shows as expired.

I wouldn't even have asked this if it had been me taking a chance with a 14 free trial but given I paid for this one I had kind of hoped it would work.

Am I an idiot?

Now obviously it's only 99p but that makes a mockery of me trying to save a few quid so I'm annoyed now smile

I just want to play with the new GR Yaris in some online races in Gran Turismo frown

12 months is £39.85 via Shopto.

Oh and the reason the 14 day trial isn't working, is because it's a trial, for new users.

Cheers, I saw the ShopTo price but I've never heard of them and when I looked for feedback a couple of worrying Reddit posts came up alongside lots of glowing reports.

I had a look around for some terms before spending my life savings on the trial code but found nothing other then "free trial" restrictions. My Google-foo is clearly weak today so thanks for sharing that.

Shopto are fine, they've been around for years, I've been using them since 2009. The digital codes get added to your account pretty much immediately too. They're also the cheapest place for PSN top ups, 15-16% off. Handy when buying digital games.

Thanks for the reassuring words, I'll throw some money their way.

I'm surprised CD Keys don't have a note about the trial codes to protect idiots like me from themselves like they do with the US codes people might be attracted to.

Unless I’m missing something, you can only buy PSN top ups from ShopTo if you pay using Paypal. There was no option for credit / debit card last time I looked

I’ve found them a bit flaky recently after they changed their website and instead bought from Simply Games instead, no affiliation with them

Thanks for the heads up on ShopTo being OK. I took out the month extension to get me to Black Friday and just paid £32.85 for 12 months of Plus in their sale.

CDKeys also kindly refunded the 99p so I didn't eat into my savings too much wink
