I am on this US dealers mailing list and he always gets something interesting in. His cars are always $$ over priced. This is $67,500.
But this old Dutchess has really caught my eye !

It features tear drop windows with a sliding retractable roof. Whilst I know very little about these Bentleys, this body style is new to me.

Really original / unmolested car. Fascinating to know who ordered it new, someone well healed, thats for sure.

It still has its British number plate EBW 281 ( an Oxford issue ) its early AA badge and another badge that could be RAC ?
How and when it crossed the pond is anyone’s guess, but many cars went back with their serviceman owners, courtesy of the USAF.

Interesting find Neutral3, thanks for sharing.smile

i would have thought it's history would be relatively easy to find; I think you'll discover it's a "Mysore" Bentley, so named after the Maharaja of Mysore who had a particular penchant for the RR marque and who liked this particular design feature of the rear window. At the time of his death I believe he owned over 40 examples.

Again, and it's only my speculation, that if this model remained in the UK then it could have served for a family member, England visit etc; thinking , a rather upmarket "Courtesy Car" lol! but I've no idea.

Also, I thought that MKV1s were all steel, poor quality @ that, hence they rotted badly, but this one looks to have some alloy panels ? Judging by the peeling paint ??
Although the bonnet looks to be steel.

The standard model (with the Pressed Steel body) was, but the rarer, coach built ones, could be traditional Aluminum over Ash.
The early one were also subjected to the "export or die" restrictions.

Your Missus is going to lose you for the night on this link: laugh:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintage-cars-classi...

I've found the RR/Bentley a strange world, previously I've come up the Mini Cooper/Spitfire/TR6/TVR/Jag route and now at the tender age of experience and grey hair I have a couple of Jags and a RR Shadow 2.

I think it was my brother who questioned the pink trousers and the de-rigueur panama hat, questioning upon eccentricity, well moneyed or just absolute, egotistical, pretentiousness, but either way I kinda get it laugh

The past year of lock down has seen me buried under the Shadow with a fortuitous, well supported, two -post lift, I’ve been changing all of the brake lines and flexi hoses and then whilst underneath noticed the exhaust clamp didn’t quite align and then that clip looks out of place (my Giddy Aunt! It’s not original!) and so it has gone on and on…lol! Its quite mad but in a strange way taps into my soul where my thoughts are “Either it’s Right or it’s Wrong” echo.

I’ve previously commented upon, perhaps in another thread/Forum, the achronistic, massively over engineered componentry, witness circa 12x BA screws to hold a Brake Fluid Reservoir in place; madness indeed and that before you venture into the chain to lift a window when common sense dictates a Bowden Cable- and they wonder why they bankrupt.

I am not suggesting that pink trousers might emerge from the closet in Suffolk, but I do begin to align with moneyed Gentry (of which I am definitely not!). I think it’s a mixture of engineering integrity that Rowan Atkinson commented upon when discussing the Ghost and the alignment of line and sensuality within good design that Callum alludes to and demonstrates ( al la XK150 which I love and own! )

One evening I wondered off “ Piste” and discussed the Voisan and the merits of its design and engineering, alas I got a flaming and thus resisted posting again but your Maharaja Tear Drop..yep..ticks the rights boxes. Can’t say I like “tear drops” ..but I do get it! 😊

Another site, https://www.coachbuild.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3...

The two tone one, is also shown on the bhp site, not in the UK.

Further down is an all black one, I guess the reference is to 1962 and possibly a MotorSport
https://www.coachbuild.com/forum/download/file.php...

Possibly the one you've found?

Edit: Feb 1962 MotorSport Frank Dale and Stepson Advert.
