Where did my favourite icons go?
Discussion
On my Acer laptop, running Windows 10 had had (until yesterday teatime) about twenty five shortcut favourite icons on my screen, such as BBC News, Pistonheads, Facebook. You tube etc....(Not on the favourites bar, but the screen)
I left the computer, switched on, left the room for half an hour and they had all gone, except the one that said re cycle bin.
I don't recall touching anything...btw, I'm a computer numpty, so please keep any replies not too technical....
The laptop is working fine in all other respects.......
Windows 10 has just done a big update, but they are still missing..
Not the end of the world, but I miss them, and don't really want to mess about putting them back.....mure curious as to what might have happened?
Cheers.

Right click mouse button, select refresh.
If not, go to C: users "username" Desktop folder are they still in there?
Are you logged in to your normal user profile? Logout and log back in again.
Turn it off and on again.
Cheers FWD, Went into desktop folder, they were fortunately all still there, so I have put them all back. If not, go to C: users "username" Desktop folder are they still in there?

Bit of a mystery why they disappeared in the first place though, just leaving the recycle one?
Are you using one drive ?
And have you selected "Files On-demand" if so .. and unless you have a good reason not to.. untick the box
( click on the one-drive cloud in the taskbar > settings > setting tab > check box at the bottom. )
I think MS have changed a default - might be unrelated ... but my shortcuts disappear at some point since friday .. and this seem to have restored them
