Hi,

I am after some advice please.

We are not gamers as a family and have a PS3 which must be 10 years old now(?) which we use as a DVD player.

I have 2 boys (9 and 7) who are not hugely into games but like playing World of Tanks and Minecraft on their iPads.

Looking to buy a used console that they can use on the television and I think the ability to connect to the internet is required so they can play these ‘free’ games.

Is there any difference in reality between the two and where is the best place to pick up a used console with he controllers and perhaps a few games (eBay I guess?).

Thanks

I was an Xbox 360 owner in the generation before last and went PS4 last generation. My main reason was the number of PS4 exclusive titles - Microsoft really didn't compete last time out.

Facebook Marketplace or, as you say, Gumtree / eBay are your best bet for a second hand item.

personal thing. Had all Xboxes (Series X when I get around to getting it which I will) but never bothered with the PS4.

Just prefer the Xbox.
So a personal thing. Get what you play the most. If both then get both

I would say "What do their friends have?". Because that is the console they will want....

As to where to get one, I guess CEX or similar?

CEX is a good shout.

I have never heard of them wishing to play because their friend do but it is a good point.

Gumtree is a good place to buy a second hand console and get a chance to look it over first and see it working.

Well I'm getting the Xbox series (after getting payday loans on this page https://maybeloan.com/payday-loans/mi ) s because it's really cheap and my friends are on Xbox but if you are fine paying more and your friends are on ps then go ahead it doesn't really matter.

Any classified site, where you can haggle direct and save on Ebay fees/Paypal fees. Also buying local means yu can collect and see it working plus save on postage.

Along with usual Facebook, Gumtree etc, AVForums is also good. https://www.avforums.com/forums/gaming-classifieds...

another vote for CEX.

collect some old junk you have and part ex.

I did with an old DLSR and paid £20 for a PS4 VR system.

2 year warranty too!!

What sort of system are you wanting and what sort of price? What is wrong with your PS3?

What friends have might be more important to your boys, as they may want to play the same games or online with them at some point. There are some cross overs, but often not.

As a fun games system, maybe a Nintendo Switch would be one to look at over either the PS of Xbox. Really depends on what types of games you are after, as each system has stuff unique to them.
