I’ve just recently started using my IPad to stream music using Spotify, obviously quality on the IPad is limited, though not as bad as I expected.
But in effort to improve the experience I recently bought a cheap Bluetooth receiver to feed the streamed music from the IPad Through my Arcam 8R amp and Mission 782’s. The sound is obviously way better than the IPad and probably good enough for what I need.
However I got to experimenting with the quality output as you can have three levels with Spotify. I did this partly to see if there would be a benefit to using one of the lossless services.
As it happens I can detect no difference at all when changing the quality. The best Spotify can do is 320kbits, some way short of the higher quality ones. Obviously playing this back to back with CD really shows up the compression.

But the big question for me, is it the limits of Bluetooth, the IPad, or the widget I bought to receive it (a simple esinkin adapter).
Cleary I will be wasting money getting the more expensive streaming services as it stands.

Where would I see an Improvement without spending serious money?

If you’d consider going to a WiFi Airplay unit, I can recommend Yamaha’s WXAD-10

I think I would still be reliant on Bluetooth with that wouldn't I?

No airplay has nothing to do with Bluetooth

A streamer / amp that has Spotify Connect on it will be much better than running Spotify from your iPad. You then use your iPad / iPhone simply as a controller. The Yamaha stuff is very decent.

That sounds interesting, I'm way behind understanding all these modern gadgets.... I guess that works independent of the amp I have already, or can I feed it through my amp to the speakers?
I don't want to loose the system i have so unless I can connect the speakers to both amps at once, it would be awkward.

Either Bluetooth or (better) WiFi from anywhere on your WiFi network

The unit has a number of music services built in, Spotify included. Yamaha do a really good mobile app that you use to control the unit. Or you can play any app in your iPhone or iPad through airplay

And yes, it connects to my current amp through a pair of RCA audio cables, so I can bring my current system a bit more up to date
