Keep Ps4 after buying Ps5?
Discussion
Hi
Can anyone see a good reason to retain your Ps4 if you buy a Ps5 and the backwards compatibility really works well?
I have quite a reasonable Ps4 physical game library and will buy the Ps5 with the optical drive, so I am starting to see no reason you would ever fire up the Ps4 again and it becomes redundant as the Ps5 plays Ps4 games at least as good as the Ps4 did.
Cheers

I’ve never used an older generation console after getting a new one - why would you? That said I don’t really replay games, so I may be atypical!
I’ve also never bought a new console that close to launch date that there aren’t many games available for it, which might also be a factor...
I’ve got my old PS3 in a cupboard somewhere. I assume the PS1 and PS2 must be landfill by now - I’ve no idea where they are if not!

Sold my Pro last week as all my games are compatible and any graphical quirks with them are likely to be patched out in future. Can't see any reason to keep hold of it this time out. Bonus is that it keeps the Wife happy as I've not got yet another console in the house (our loft is full of all my old ones running from the Master System through current-gen with pretty much everything else in between).

There is an option on the PS4 which appears to link to the PS5. Seems that it may be feasible to put the PS4 in the bedroom and play PS5 games on it.......
Otherwise I suspect my son will get it...... (subject to approval from the boss).
Is there? Interesting... Remote play is already possible on my phone and iPad, but it’s a bit hit and miss. Having the old console in another room could provide some useful options though... Otherwise I suspect my son will get it...... (subject to approval from the boss).

I've been pondering this as I'll likely upgrade to the PS5 when the new Horizon Zero Dawn game comes out next year; I see no reason to retain it if you are going for the PS5 with the optical drive - in fact it'll lower the cost of the new unit if you trade it in - that's my plan anyways.
I guess if you were to keep it it would serve as a decent second games machine and blu-ray player elsewhere in the house, if you need that kind of thing (I don't personally).

Has anyone heard of ANY downside of playing all Ps4 games on a Ps5?
I've not but if there was any issues or some games that didn't work, I'd get the Ps4 Pro just so I can play my library with confidence.
So far I have just heard that the Ps5 plays the games at least as good as the Ps4 Pro and in many case much better and smoother due to extra processing and gfx power.
I don't have a need to remote play as all console and pc gaming action all happen in one dedicated room.
Cheers.

get rid, no need to keep it
https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/ps5-backwards-compatibility-can-you-play-ps4-games-on-playstation-5I just read the above article and it highlights that 99% of Ps4 games will load on PS5 (the list that won't is very small) but there is a larger list of titles that may expect to have some issues. Which in my case, MAY be the reason for keeping a PS4.
While the vast majority of PS4 games will work on PS5 without any errors, Sony has marked some games on the PlayStation Store with the following warning: "When playing on PS5, this game may exhibit errors or unexpected behaviour and some features available on PS4 may be absent." It's important to note that any PS4 games carrying this message will load and be playable on the PS5, but they may exhibit errors like minor graphical glitches or bugs. The full list of all PS4 games that may exhibit errors on PS5 is as follows:
