How do you check Over revs and is it an issue ?
Discussion
Just agreed a deal to buy a Porsche Cayman 981 GT4 Manual ( yes I know finally found one I like I wthin my budget , yes I have been looking for what seems ages etc)
Price agreed and owner will put on new MOT
Bits i need help with
1. I think it should come with at least 1 year OPC warranty as present owner bought this car in Jan 2020 for OPC as an OPC used car. But some reason warranty only showing valid till 7/1/21 but hopefully OPC will sort that out and confirm warranty is valid till Jan 2022. Question is should OPC used cars come 2 years warranty and Assist or can they sell it with 1 year warranty. I did the deal on the basis that warranty was valid till Jan 2022
2. Should I get a 111 point check done or independent engineer to check it ( who is highly recommended by a fellow Porsche owner as he used him to reject a car OPC had sold him, and with this persons report it was easy to reject)
Or get both of the above done for belt and braces
3. Can anyone other than OPC do OVER REV check and what is the issue with this etc? Is it a big thing , can it invalidate the warranty etc
4. Anything else I should get checked ? Independent will do HPI check as part of his report and owner has confirmation no outstanding finance is due etc
Cheers and thanks in advance. Could not have got to this stage without your help guys so any more info on the above much appreciated

Many indies can also run an over rev report for you. When I bought from 911 Virgin they ran one for me on the spot. If there are a critical number of over revs in the higher bands it would potentially put off OPC’s from buying the car in the future as part of trade in etc. A check that’s worth doing.

OPC's can sell used vehicles with 1 years warranty instead of 2 years and often will reduce the sale price accordingly so I would double check / get it in writing when the warranty actually expires.
Blimey I did not know that as I just assumed ALL OPC USED cars had 2 year warranty on it. I also put did the deal based on this car having approx 13 months warranty left . Thats why i love this group as the knowledge like this is invaluable
Thanks

Thats what i was told. Not sure if there is any Indies near Aberdeen / Perth that can do that so i guess OPC will have to do it Any one who sells Porsche can do a over rev check, or buy a durmetric cable and do it yourself if people quote £££ to check it.
you can buy a 3 car cable and then use it yourself on your own car. for £270 and also will help you bleed brakes etc yourself as you need this to trigger ABS if you self bleed brakes.
or buy it use it, and sell it on knowing there are 2 cars left on the cable, some one will buy it off your for £150 with 2 cars left.

Just renewed my 2year warranty with porsche assist today at a cost of £1475 and thats for a 981GT4, so if the warranty does expire its no deal breaker just renegotiate the price, also there is a suspension of the 111point check if the car is within warranty which is a saving, it felt like a great deal today when leaving my OPC which does not happen very often, also got a quote for the 6year service which was £960.48p which inc VAT, fixed service price, hope this information helps

Cheers great infoDefinitely not a deal breaker but price will need to reflect the fact there is no warranty
When you renewed I know they need to check for warning lights etc so will need to see the car. But did they check for over revs. My concern is I buy the car and in the future they decline warranty work due to an over rev issue in the past in the hands of previous owners, no idea what I would do then ?
Which OPC quoted you the price for the 6th Year service as that will be due by Jan 2022 so time to start saving me thinks

Until now I did not even know that OPC could and did check for over revs and could refuse warranty work / trade in based on this over rev issue if logged ?

Warranty will depend on the severity of the overrevs, if it's just a few in the lower logs, they may want to do a leakdown test and an oil analysis, anything more prolonged and in the higher logs, you'll be refused a warranty. End of.Until now I did not even know that OPC could and did check for over revs and could refuse warranty work / trade in based on this over rev issue if logged ?
And yes, you take your car into an OPC with an engine fault, the first thing they'll do is plug the diagnostics in and read any fault codes and check for overevs ...
As I understand it, doing so with a BMW will communicate that information directly to the factory ...
Trade in ? Not sure. they're buying "as seen", and unless you know and fail to disclose the facts, I suspect they have little comeback. But with good reputable indys, it'll be one of the first things they check (whilst your there) ...

Ok seems Over Revs definitely more of an issue than I thought . And yes, you take your car into an OPC with an engine fault, the first thing they'll do is plug the diagnostics in and read any fault codes and check for overevs ...

So what is best way to proceed to protect my myself
Ask for just Over Revs report or get a full 111point inspection done
I guess they want to protect themselves form misuse by owners
As 911R said you go to play the game
You can have 'over revs' in the lower bands without issue and still have OPC warranty. Range 1 & 2 are fine. 911 Virgin produced a useful guide on over-revs a few years back: http://www.911virgin.com/porsche/rev-range-informa...
Plus I believe the owner could extend the warranty by another year without issue as it is still in play so that's c£600?
I'm not sure why owners buy Porsche Assist (given the AA turn up) as other breakdown policies are much cheaper.

AA don’t attend or recover from track, or just outside either. Porsche Assist AA do, if that is a potential requirement.Plus I believe the owner could extend the warranty by another year without issue as it is still in play so that's c£600?

I don't let my warranty lapse before doing a 111 check, just so that if they find anything, it's covered.Definitely not a deal breaker but price will need to reflect the fact there is no warranty
