Hi Forum,

I want a laptop for home, and I want to be able to play games on it. Not looking for latest alienware mental gaming laptop - in reality I'll probably be playing Counterstrike Source, Race 07, and X Wing Alliance - but I'd like the option of moving to whatever the current decent sim racer is, as well as current Counterstrike (assuming that no-one plays Source anymore)..

Thing is, I have no clue whatsoever what a decent spec is these days. I use a Lenovo T480 every day and like it,m but have no concept on how it would do on a game because it's a work PC and can't have non work software. I'd like to stay similar to this form factor though, not some heavy wide monster job - monitors should be seperate anyway! I also have a worry that since no-one does cd / DVD drives anymore, I might actually need something really old instead if I want to play older games because of the CD factor.. ...but then I guess old laptop = knackered battery so thats a whole new world of hurt!

So, Ph. If you were given 300 quid to go and buy a laptop for above, where would you start? Doesn't have to be new, prefer smaller rather than some 15" monster... Thanks in advance!

Can't speak for latest graphics card options but a good base will be an SSD of at least 512GB, 8 GB RAM & an i5 (or AMD equivalent) processor.

£300 doesn't sound like a huge amount to get you what you need...

You are not going to get much for £300 even second hand. For basic gaming you will need something with a separate GPU (unless you find a Ryzen 7 APU - these can just about cut it for gaming) .

If you are willing to take a chance and have some confidence in problem solving there is this one on ebay that might meet your requirements.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Totally get that the budget isnt high spec 2020 gaming, but then my aspirations on games (mid 2000's era mainly) aren't high either..

I think from what i've read from you i can have at least a stab at getting something to fit the bill - Google tells me that x wing is now on steam so i can even skip the cd requirement - bonus!

Thanks again smile
