I'm going to get some machined ali clamps manufactured to fit the impreza rack, obviously cheaper to get a few sets done, anyone interested? Probably be in the region of £100 a set, but won't require the poly bushes.

Hi,
Yes I am interested in these brackets, I can't quite make out from the pictures, but is each one a two part bracket, and if so is the bracket that clamps on the round part of the rack sculpted to fit the diameter of the tube? The reason I ask is that I was never really happy with the way the round part just clamped against a flat plate underneath it doesnt feel as though it is supportive enough and the polly bush is distorting and pushing out.
What material would you plan to make these from and what finish.
Sorry for so many questions.
Thanks Kev

Hi Kev, each bracket is two halves shaped to the rack, I'll get some better pictures next week. They will most likely be 6082-T6 and plain aluminum, although I can probably get them anodised black for a reasonable price if doing enough of them.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if you use the Subaru mounting rubbers. (I used the aftermarket PollyBush type ones) the base of them is flat and therefore clamps nicely onto the flat plate on the chassis therefore negating the need for these purpose made brackets.

Am I wrong?

Was ok on mine, I made sure I narrowed the brackets to fit the bushes accordingly.

Hi Peter,
You are correct for the square mounting part next to the pinion, but the other end is a round tube which has a curved top Subaru bracket, but I only have a flat plate below it which is the same as the other side. My concern with this fixing is that is puts all the pressure onto a single point on the tube rather than cupping the whole circumference, I was also concerned that this may distort the roundness of the tube.

Would they be a direct swop for the ones I have had fitted on my imprezza conversion ?

I don’t think these new brackets you propose are necessary.

This is what I used with my Subaru rack. You can see both of the mounts are flat bottomed and sit squarely on the plates on the chassis.

They aren't a necessity but they are a nicety. If no one else wants them that's fine, I won't be holding anyone at gun point!

Probably. I'm not sure what differences there are in the various years / types.

My rack has the part number 34110 FA082.

I believe only one Subaru rack fits so everyone should have the same one. That is from the Subaru classic late 90s onwards if I remember right.

Hi Daz.

It is probably because you have different rack stops fitted. Possiblysmile

Can you check how many turns it is lock to lock so we know Daz please.
I think I’d agree with you from my memory of Driving Peters which felt very light very precise and the dogs bits to be honest.
I’ve never put my finger on it until now but thinking about it maybe i was turning slightly more but very marginal. If my TVR rack is 2.2 turns lock to lock maybe the Suburu is 2.5 which makes sense.

Just curious but why did Subaru originally make them with the rubber bushes in. Was this for shock absorption ?
