I’m changing my broadband supplier from Sky FTTC at 76mb to a 1gb FTTP supplier.

I’ve got loads of kit in my house on the wifi, apparently over 68 items and don’t fancy logging into everyone of them to assign the new wifi network they should now use.

I’m told that I can simply rename my new wifi’s SSID and password to the same as the old wifi’s SSID and password, turn off the old wifi and reboot all of my kit (Alexa, Phones, tablets etc) and it’s job jobbed.

Is this correct?

All answers appreciated. Cheers.

This is correct and I doubt you will need to reboot anything.

I recently changed my wifi and have about 30 devices connected. I made sure the SSID was absolutely identical, along with the password. Switched off the old router and everything connected without an issue. Even Sonos, which is very picky.

In theory it is correct but I have found it to fail far too many times so be prepared to go around manually fixing things. It will not be all of them though so less work in the end, but if it does work first time for you I would strongly advise to go out an buy a lottery ticket.

Need to make sure the SSID is identical as mentioned before, SSIDs are case sensitive.

\I just changed my router and everything sorted itself out except one of my printers which mysteriously re-allocated the IP and I couldnt change it to its new value - so I re-set the printer up and renamed the printer on the IP I couldnt change, to 'do not use'

I still have 2 printers registered on my networ 'do not use' and Priner 1. There appears no option to delete the old one.

Moral of that story is in theory it should work, but you may have to tweek some things.
