CNAMEs and Sub-Domains
Discussion
I am just learning about DNS etc or our business site and hoped an adult could check something for me please?
As an example- you have a main domain called pisonsheds.co.uk and its hosted on AWS, you have an A name record obviously for this domain
You then want to create some blogs at blogs.pisonsheds.co.uk The webserver for these blogs is going to be held on a totally different server running a totally different system (it effectively integrates direct into your marketing back end and cloud-based CRM....)
Would the following CNAME work:
HOST Value
CNAME blogs.pisonsheds.co.uk puuggiesblogs.sites.differentserver.net
Or have I totally misunderstood CNAMEs?
Its one of these questions that I suspect if you are supposed know, then you already know, and if you don't know, you shouldn't be fiddling with

For what you're wanting to do an A record or CNAME really shouldn't make any difference technically.
Main thing is make sure that puuggiesblogs.sites.differentserver.net has a host header for blog.yourdomain.com.
If puuggiesblogs.sites.differentserver.net isn't something you control I'd go with a CNAME because that way if whoever does own puuggiesblogs.sites.differentserver.net changes its IP address you don't need to do anything.
