Any suggestions for mobile phone insurance please?

I've never bothered having it personally, but my 14yr old lad might be getting a new iPhone for Xmas, he wants to upgrade from his 16gb iphone 6, which is on its last legs. Was looking at 2nd hand but may stretch to new, maybe an iPhone XR, or iPhone 11 at a push.

Main concern is him losing it, or accidentally dropping it. What would be the most suitable insurance cover for this eventuality?

We looked at insuring our daughters new 11, was getting online quotes of around £9-14 per month.

Logged onto our online banking and it offered me to upgrade our personal account - we now pay £14 per month for our bank account but get free phone cover for any handset that has dd from that account, uk and european breakdown for cars owned by us, a taste card and some other cash back things.

Might be worth looking at?

If you have contents insurance that covers items away from home onj an all risk basis, then then the phones will be covered.

Some policies will have inclusive cover anyway, some will cover via a special section often called 'Personal Possessions'.

All insurance policies are different. Most will specific limits on types of cover.

Check the wording carefully, mobile phones may well be excluded. However adding it as a specified item is highly likely to be the cheapest way. Specific “Gadget” insurance is usually rather expensive in comparison.

Nationwide have an account that covers 4 phones.
Xs for an iPhone is a chunky £100 though.

I’ve had to use it twice for myself and it provided a brand new phone and last month provided an upgrade from a p20 to p30.

Also has euro car cover and other benefits.....

Alternatively, put it in a tough case and issue a stark warning “if you break it, I’m not paying for another one”.

My lad’s has lasted on this basis.
We've relied on that for his current iPhone 6, but that was a cheap 2nd hand phone. He's never lost or damaged it though, he takes care of his stuff. But If we get him an iPhone 11 i'd prefer some level of cover as they aint cheap.
