retrieving keys from ex partner

Hi all,
recently split with partner.
she has both sets of keys for a car of mine (I am legal owner and registered keeper but she was main driver on insurance, me named) in her home. She is refusing to give me the keys...I have keys to the property but it is officially rented by her and I don't want to trespass or cause trouble or whatever so that's not an option.
previously spoke to 101 and they advised they couldn't help as it's a civil matter.
I had previously told her to hang onto the car, she was welcome to have it, as it allowed her to see our son who is in hospital and made her life easier. She has since told me she doesn't want it, and bought herself a new car last week which is now her main transport.
any words of wisdom as to how I can get the keys back please as, if she doesn't want it, I would welcome the cash that the car sale would generate.

My initial thoughts would be to recover the car without keys. Find a car recovery company with dollies or who can lift the car.
Then once you have it, you can consider the cheapest option to get the keys/new keys - whether that is time to persuade your ex or bribe your son into handing them over.
Some manufacturers will allow you to order replacements keys that are already cut using the V5C.

I didn't begrudge her having the car at all, absolutely welcome to have it, but she's made it clear now that she doesn't want it and has alternative transport and with work not so prosperous in current climate, combined with other other factors, the money would be welcome. I have my own main car so this was a family wagon and is now surplus to requirements.
My problem is it all ended very quickly and my documentation for the car is also in her house (I probably should have mentioned this in original post)...I guess it's not going to be so easy when that's the case until I get a replacement V5C from DVLA.

Hold on a tick, is the car on her land or yours?
If it's at hers, explain that unless the keys are returned, the car will remain there for quite some time. Go sorn the car and never collect it.
It it's at yours (on the street), just get new keys.
Mrs Dundarach was always loosing keys, take 30 minutes for someone to arrive, program and you're done. Cost us £75 last time for call out and unlocking of 2011 plate scenic. Perhaps another £200 for the key?

ha, absolutely not! all came to a head with premature birth of our boy and she decided there wasn't enough room for my own biological kids in the house she asked us to move into...arguments and stress ensued, nothing 'exciting' unfortunately.A Woman Scorned and all of that !

Is it not theft of your keys if she's refusing to give them to you? After deploying some google-fu, it would appear that theft can be considered someone appropriating your property with no intention of ever giving it back.
Correct course I suppose is being nice and seeing how far that gets you. If that fails, tell her that you'll then have to get keys re-cut and go through the courts (MCOL) as it's her that has caused you to incur this cost. Even if MCOL wouldn't entertain it, court threats might be enough for her to give up. Obviously, threatening people can make them dig their heels in.

We moved here (myself and my two young kids) to be with her and her kids, baby came early, I couldn't sell my house in London to buy one up here as quick as she expected as it's lost a good bit of money this year...premature baby, lots of arguments and stress about not enough room to live together, she thinks I'm a wker, I think she's a wker etc etc etc.

She obviously isn't going to deprive you permanently, she's just being awkward. She has something you want, and until she can think of what she wants in return, you're stuffed.
Leave it a week or two and ask nicely for her to give you the stuff back. If she refuses ask her why she is being awkwartd and what she hopes to gain, because she won't tell you unless you ask.

yea, that was what I think 101 tried to tell me a week ago...just wondered if there was an 'easy' way to do things to try and tie up loose ends and get the car sold while she wasn't keen to cooperate. don't want any further trouble or arguments but I suppose, like you say, it isn't theft or whatever as it stands, it's a personal problem. probably shouldn't have aired it on pistonheads haha.
