Anyone sold a wedge lately?

This has had a fair amount of debate in recent months. I was trying sell a 390SE (pic still on my profile - haven't worked out how to get rid of it yet!) for the best part of a year. It had recently had a full body off chassis job, so a great buy for someone, or so you would think.
The only thing that sold it after a number of time wasters was dropping the price (sold in the end for a tiny bit above average price for an '88 390).
Some folk on here believe that it is people like me dropping the price to sell that is making wedge prices generally low, but after a year of trying at the higher price ranges, there wasn't much else to do. We have to face facts that wedge prices are low because there is more competition these days (cheap Chimaeras and Griffiths for £10K for example).

Hi,I just sold my 1986 350i,spent a lot of money on it and lost a lot of money on it,but not to bad.I loved driving the car,but got a bit fed after seeing how much they went for and couldn't realy afford to keep it.The person who bought car had a good bargain.So don't give up trying to sell,just be ready to except a bit lower price,as you never get what they worth,unless you realy lucky.happy v8ing ,Ken.
Managed to sell the 350 last week, again after nearly a year and dropping the price from what I wanted to something more reasonable !
Now just starting on my latest project, converting an LDV Ambulance in to a campervan / TVR Wedge support vehicle ! Nice V8 engine that enventually may be a TVR one !

Looks like I will have to go for broke and stick her on ebay. Was trying to avoid this route but if it generates a sale then it’s probably worth it as the wife will lose the plot if I have two wedges over the winter. 
Don’t think slow sales are just a wedge thing,a mate at work ended up trading in his Scooby due to zero interest, despite having it advertised £500 cheaper than anything else in the country

I moderate on a well known subaru site and thats very true. The market is flooded with used Impreza's and not being the cheapest cars to run and insure makes them hard to shift on, not even touching on after market mods that a lot are fitted with.... I was lucky selling my Impreza on, it went to another club member but that was the only lead i had in selling it...
Don't know whether it will work in your case, but I've moved a BMW 730, a Volvo 740, a Seat Ibiza and (many years ago) a Vauxhall Victor, by leaving them in our local Tesco car park for a day with a for sale sign. I know Wedges aren't the same but my experinece has covered a range of cars. I'm told that a lot of people don't go out looking for a particular type of car but see something they like and go for it.
Worth a try as it'll only cost the price of parking for the day.

Some comedian last week parked a white Chav Chariot (sorry, Escort cabrio
) on the exit slip from a major roundabout in Teesside, with a For Sale sign in the window. I was busy calling him a complete ar5ep1pe for parking in such a ridiculous place (quite high speeds round there, drivers distracted etc) when Julie pointed out that it might just have broken down....
Interesting reading this thread. I did the knob head thing and sold an ace 1989 350i on 39k miles for a Chim. Couldnt take to the Chim and realised you cant beat a pre cat V8!!! so now back looking... I think I am too fussy now, but I really want to keep the next one.

I wonder if that would work with the wife ?
I've been looking for a running Wedge for a while. With so much Wedge stuff in the garage I'm after a good runner but generally tatty. They seem few and far between.
I've been watching e bay and some Weges do seem to go for reasonable money. Carswaps didn't seem too happy with his £6k for the 400SE - but he got his money back and it is a lot of money to pay for a >15 year old car - without seeing it - IMHO!
The recent F plate 400SE didn't reach reserve or go above £4200 which is low for a 400SE.
Be careful if you do try and sell by this route as I did bid on a couple and got beaten by the proxy system and then got a strange follow up e mail saying your second bidder, prime bidder has defaulted, give me your e bay detials, I'll then inform them you've bought it and you can collect - seemed flackey so I ignored it.
Good luck chaps on the sales - if you move away from Wedging - Please, please come back

You can always contact the seller through the auction page to check such an email is genuine. Doing a deal off ebay won't make any difference as their payer protection only applies to items between £15 and £500. Since you'll be dealing in cash or cheque after seeing the car it's just like answering an ad in the paper.

I've just put mine up for sale in the PH classifieds.
Having cost me about £4.5 - £5K in total I'm enough of a realist to know I'm going ot take a bath on this one and somebody is going to get a bargain.
The car market as a whole really does seem flat at the moment - I guess all us guys struggling selling need to remember that when we come to buying our next motor and make sure we drive a HARD bargain.
