Looking for some advice to improve our wifi. We have Virgin Media superfast internet, which is superfast when hard wired, but the wifi does not seem that quick, even when close to the router, and very poor in the far side of the house and garden.

A bit of research suggests a Mesh system could work, using the existing VM hub as a modem and the system as a router and satellite. Admittedly, this is far from my area of expertise and looking for advice as to whether the following would work, or if not, what alternative would you recommend,

The reason the following 2 appeal is that they offer at least 3 hard wire ethernet points which I need in the room where the router is located.

Netgear Orbi RBK50

ASUS AC CT8

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-ZenWiFi-Whole-Home-C...

Does anyone have positive experience of these or other similar products that would work and offer ethernet points?

I run the Netgear Orbi and it's BRILLIANT!!!

Until I installed my Orbi, the 200Mb Virgin connection was reduced to 2Mb through most of my place, even with the repeaters. Now I've got the Orbi, I've got the full 200Mb everywhere. I can't recommend them enough.

Just to be controversial I dumped my mesh system as I could change the channels and kept getting shocking interference.

I bought a ubiquity UDM and a nano HD ap. in one word awesome

I have the Orbi 50 system at home hooked to the Virgin box as a modem only. I have the 100mbit package and it gives 110/10 all through the house on 3 floors with solid brick walls.

My Orbi system is about two years old and covers a huge area, I’ve got the router and 3 satellites and it works flawlessly.

The Orbi is great, I use it. However that model is quite old now and for a long time satellites were unavailable - if going for that buy everything you need.

Asus CT8 here. Rock solid, very pleased, got three units covering large house with thick walls, on a gigabit fibre service. Keeps up no problem. Only downsides are that adding an extra unit later was harder than setting them all up together initially, and it definitely benefited from a bit of tweaking after setup to move away from some of the default settings, which you may not be keen to do.

That is useful to know, is there a newer model that I would be better getting which should be better supported going forward? I was going to go for a set of 2 and if needed get a 3rd later.

Interesting thanks, not sure how capable I would be at tweaking it to set up probably, how complicated was it?

Do some mesh systems allow a change in channel to resolve that? Please tell me more on the ubiquity UDM and a nano HD ap, is that just a stronger router?
