Smart TV and YouView issue
Discussion
I bought a LG smart TV a few months ago but I'm having signal issues when combined with the BT YouView box (Humax). It appears I can't have both devices using the aerial. When I plug the aerial cable directly into the TV I get all the DTV channels but no YouView box. Plug it into the box and no DTV channels. Bought a splitter to plug into the box and still no DTV channels. It doesn't make sense to me but I've a theory that the HDMI from the box to the TV tells the TV to block its aerial input. It's really frustrating because I don't always want to use the box as it's become really slow since connecting it to the TV. Any ideas how to overcome this? Currys, where I bought the TV, have no idea whatsoever and said 'just watch it through the box'. Yeah, thanks for that sage advice. BT are also useless.
I’m not familiar with the box in question, but usually you’d plug the antenna feed into the box, and then a second antenna feed from the box to the telly.
The box should provide a bit of gain to offset the signal drop, and will work in pass through mode even when powered off. If you use a passive splitter before the box you’ll halve the power to both devices which is likely a bad thing.

I've used freeview humax boxes and you do indeed configure them with an aerial pass through to the TV.
The pass through takes a little power, so by default is switched off when the box is switched off.
There's a setting I think in the systems menu to keep the pass through live when the box is otherwise off.

Thank you for your help so far. Previous to this TV I just ran a projector with the YouView box, so no other aerial required. I thought this may have been because the TV is 'smart', but have to admit this kind of tech is way off my radar! I did buy an adaptor that plugged into the other aerial port of the box to run a coaxial to the TV. i.e coax from aerial to box, then coax from box to TV. That didn't change anything either, but as has been said perhaps there's something in 'settings' of the box I need to fiddle with.
Re-readiing the OP, to an extent Curry's have a point.
You typically always use the PVR as the tuner and treat it as an HDMI input on the TV. That way you get the pause live TV, rewind etc functionality all the time, rather than having to specifically choose not to use the TV tuner on the occasions you expect to need it. Inevitably you end up needing when you hadn't planned to.
I hook the aerial up to the TV at least partly so when houseguests want to use the TV I can simply hand them the TV remote and it isn't "all complicated".

Ah, in that case, something iike:Go to Device Management then set RF Loop through to on.
Change the Eco mode to the right one - something like partial, rather than full - otherwise when the box shuts down you'll lose the loop through.
My FILwatched his through the box - in fact he never turned his TV off, he set it to monitor mode and it powers down after a while (but not fully, but he wasn't bothered). So all the channel control etc was through the YouView box - he said he preferred that as he could pause / rewind live TV easily.
ETA: Same as above poster!

The advice given is correct: connect aerial to YouView box and coax from box to tv. Set box to pass rf through and eco mode to allow it to work with box off.
I almost never use the tuner in my tv but the advent of a 70s music channel on 271 has me using it again as it doesn’t work on my YouView box.

Frustratingly this hasn't worked. I have aerial into box, box out to TV. I went to the box settings and made sure it remained on at all times and that the aerial out was switched to on. Returned the TV and 'no channels found'! Plug the aerial directly into the TV and it'll find all the channels.

Daft as it sounds remove the aerial cable that links from the Humax to the tv so it doesnt have one inThen retune
Then replace the aerial cable that links from the Humax to the tv and retune

Finally got there. Thank you for your help. Of course it would have been easier had the new aerial cable from Wickes not been faulty...
If it makes you feel better, I once spent 2 days tracing an electrical fault on my citroen zx that caused the brake lights to permanently illuminate. Duff bulb.
