Eurotrip - any tips?
Discussion
Hi all,
Me and 3 mates are thinking of doing a trip some time in late August. We are thinking or a route that takes us through France to the Nice area, along the coast to Monaco, up to Genoa, through the Alps, and back through France. We've got about 10 days to play with, so the route may have to be adapted to suit. We'll probably be taking an Elise, and a TVR Chimaera. (And taking bets on which breaks first). Has anyone done a similar route? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Ed, best tip I can give is to spend some time on the stages of the Monte Carlo Rally when you are down there. Some fabulous roads.
I'd also take a look over on the Eurohoon forum as there is a European trip planned for early september which although not covering France (funny that now they've got arsey with speeding), does cover some great driving roads down into Italy, and importantly has the benefit of a fully TVR and Ferrari trained mechanic on the tour in opne of the back up vehicles.

Just be aware that the south of France is ludicriously expensive. In a pizzeria in Cannes in february a pint of lager was more than the pizza. £6 a pint. It was only £5 a pint in Monaco just off Casino Square! the night before.

BTW - Just seen your profile and noticed you're in Bristol. I don't know if you're aware of it, but a few PHers are meeting up in Hotwells, for beer and curry this evening. All petrolheads welcome:

Hi
I've done this 5 times in the past in a variety of cars including both my Griffs and whatever you do you'll have a great time.
The road Daz mentions is the unmissable RN85 Route Napoléon - basically you drive down the middle of France and turn left at Lyon then its a couple of hundred miles of awesome mountain twisties before Cannes.
I found St.Tropez to be brash and average, Cannes was better but still felt very 70's but for me, Nice was really fabulous. There's lots of great little towns in between (Agay?) and that coast road HAS to be driven. You'll recognise it from about half the car launch footage you see on TV.
Why not try the Italian Riviera (Rapallo and the Cinque Terre) after that - its a short blast past Genoa - then head North through the MontBlanc tunnel into Switzerland and home.
Making me jelous now

Awesome - cheers for the advice guys, i'll talk to the lads and see what they think. No doubt we'll end up arguing over a map!
I'm actually driving to Corsica in a few weeks (on a completely unrelated matter) although not in the Chim unfortunately
Might be a good opportunity to scope out the roads.
Daz - sorry, didn't spot the post in time! Went to see War of the Worlds that night - what a waste of time that was! I'll keep my eye on the thread for future events...
