Password recovery help
Discussion
My mum has been having problems with her hotmail emails on her iPad, which has led me needing her password for her hotmail account.
She’s got all her passwords written down but she can’t even read them, let alone me make any sense!!
I’ve tried the usual reset which sends a sms code to a mobile, for some reason it has a the wrong number though so I can’t get anywhere down that route.
I then tried filling in a form answering multiple questions about the account (email contacts, email titles of sent messages and personal data) none of this matched so we didn’t have any luck there.
I tried to find a number I could ring to get help but as it’s password related I was sent back to ‘secure’ online help.
I’m at a bit of a loss now and I don’t really fancy setting a new email up for her as that’ll mean having to update all her other logins as she won’t manage that.
Are there any other ways I can go about finding or resetting her password? She’s shielding at the moment which doesn’t help either as I’ve been trying to do it at my house.

I'd be a bit suspicious the mobile number is wrong. Sounds like someone may have got into her hotmail and changed all the security bits.
The automated system for getting your account back is a bit s
t and i would seriously consider changing other accounts that use that email to a new one.
Your only hope is to look for the password on the machine she uses either via autocomplete or chromes password list.
Can she still log in to the mail on her machine? you need to check all the setting on there.
You really cant sort this over a phone, you need the device.
The fact that the two initial password recovery systems failed means it does not look good. Hotmail wont just ask for ID, say "oh its you. Here, I'll reset your account for you".

There is an ongoing issue on i-devices causing outlook accounts to sign out, been happening to me and Twitter is lit up with similar issues. As far as I can see Microsoft haven’t acknowledged the problem, but may be the root cause of the issue. Some are also saying their password isn’t being accepted so bear that in mind

Can't you go and pick up the laptop/computer and take it back home, sort it out and return it? You've got a good reason to be making the journey as fr as lockdown goes.
And take a photo of the written down passwords, you’re almost at the end of the road of being able to do anything.I’m not too concerned about the mobile number as it shows the last two digits and I think it’s an old number she had, but obviously can’t change it without getting into the account!
I’m going to get the iPad tomorrow but from what I’ve been reading I think it’s going to have to be a new email address.
I’ve not seen her phone yet but hopefully there might be a way in on there I haven’t thought about.
