The ongoing crisis in Ethiopia/Tigray is awful and as always the innocent public bare the brunt of it all.
Surely this is ideal for the UN to step in and take control of the situation?
I would love to hear that Biden/Trump had picked up the phone to Putin and Pi to say come on guys let’s do some good in the world and commit a joint force for no personal/nationalistic gain and sort this crap out. Pure fantasy I know but I am a romantic dreamer.

Step in and take control?

When was the last time the UN did that successfully when it’s come to a military conflict?

It’s an internal military conflict, we should stay out of it.

Sure give aid to those who need it, take action if either side is breaking international law, offer to send in peacemaking forces (after the fighting has stopped) but not sure we should be taking it any further.

Shouldn't they all be inside hiding from this virus?

Sorry but having done a few UN missions wearing the blue beret this is the last thing any country needs. Corrupt and no power really to do anything.
At the same time its not for us, the US or any other country to deal with. Too much going on with our own issues before we start rocking up to places like Ethiopia and trying to sort out their own issues. Sad that innocents are killed but such is life until countries start learning to sort out differences without reaching for the AK47.

“ Ethiopia has urged the international community to refrain from "unwelcome and unlawful acts of interference" in its affairs following calls to end the conflict in the northern Tigray region.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called the military offensive a "law-enforcement operation".”

Reading between the lines the president has used the excuse of Coronavirus to make himself an unelected dictator and the political opponents he defeated last time around are annoyed enough to start taking matters into their own hands.

Not a great deal we can do here in the west except use the influence granted by trade and aid to try and ensure adherence to democracy and the rule of law.

Nobel laureate Abiy Ahmed, the Ethiopian leader, is now using mass starvation as a weapon in this conflict.

The food is all there waiting to be delivered but the Ethiopian authorities won’t let it through.

The UN is basically the Eurovision Song Contest ,it’s political block voting and actually has almost no relevance anymore ,and on top of that it is one of the most corrupt organisations on earth .

Unfortunately the reality is that unless there is a giant carrot being waved about in the form of shall we say..hmmm..important natural resources or some type of strategic/military benefit then nobody really bothers getting involved.

Rather than attempt to ‘keep the peace’ which more or less guarantees that the conflict goes on ad infinitum, it might be better to arm one side or the other (in this case the government side) and let them win a conclusive victory.

Imagine if a UN had ‘kept the peace’ just after Germany invaded France in WWII.
