Anyone know some good pubs/bars in paris??

We have a works jolly to paris early next month, and I don't fancy doing the normal touristy thing. Our idea is to find a decent bar and while away the hours watching the girls go by..

Oh, what about decent car museums?? Unfortunantly we are missing the Paris car show by 2 days....

Hey 944 mate, I think I can help you!

Actually even if you prefer the atmosphere of a pure bar (I have just seen your profile, you seem to enjoy beer!), you wouldn't really feel you're really in Paris if you don't sample many of the "Cafés" flourishing in every corner of every street.

Anyway, IMO the best places worth being paid a visit are:

- the "Latin quarter": 5th/6th "arrondissement", métro station "Place Monge" then walk up to the "rue Mouffetard" then to the "Jardin du Luxembourg" via the "Panthéon" - lots of bars/cafés available, even a pseudo Irsih one if you feel too homesick, then walk to "St-Germain des prés" down the "rue de l'Odéon" to get to the "île de la cité": the small and narrow street are absolutely marvellous to get through, and there shouldn't be too many people there at this period !

- After crossing the Seine river you should walk along the rue de Rivoli from the Louvre to La Concorde (just for the sake of giving a look at the old stones ), then walk up to the Champs Elysées, only if you really feel the need to go there - too many tourists IMO, and as such not really representative of the "vie parisienne".

I'm sure you'll find your way; And if you come for the first sunday of November you should meet all the club944.net bunch for our monthly lunch in Vincennes!
You will be very welcome indeed!

Cheers!

Hi

I've just got back from the Paris show and its one of my favorite cities. Thom's recommendations are excellent but I can also add both the Buddah Bar on Rue Boissy D'Anglais (chiling fusion food with DJs and a 40' gold buddah!) or its sister restaurant, BarFly on Avenue George V (Champs Elysee end).

Take a look here for more ideas:

Have fun

The only decent car museum in France is the Schlumpf Bugatti collection in Mulhouse, 5 hours away by train or 4 hrs by car, but really worth seeing...........
