Afternoon people

I’m looking into what’s the easiest kit to purchase for watching and alerting us to wild life that roams around our house at night. Ideally I would like 2/3 cameras that are battery powered and triggered by a sensor that then can transmit or notify to something like an iPad via Bluetooth......

Does it need to broadcast?

You can get motion activated still cameras pretty cheaply which take a photo every 1/2/5/10 seconds and save it to an SD card. With infra-red for night time activities then its a reasonably priced solution.

What sort of a house do you have that wildlife roam around?

Serious note, Bushnell seem to be one of the best brands, but the;'re not chap and if you want 2/3 you probably want some cheap ones? There are loads of cheaper Chinese brands on Amazon, personally I'd just go for the most popular/best genuine reviews of them.

edit: Apeman seem to be pretty popular t about £40 a pop.

It did sound a bit grand lol .......it’s basically to record our friendly neighbourhood hedgehogs that have made home in a purpose built hog house in the back garden of our modest bungalow in Dorset 😂

Thanks for the advice, will have a look on Amazon

I got mine from Wish, roughly £70 with shipping and big memory card. Biggest problem is batteries so you'll need some rechargebale ones. I think this may be a screen shot so lower quality:

'Do you have to while i'm eating dinner? Put it away ffs'.

They are called 'Trail Cameras'.

I've got an LTL Acorn (similar to the Apeman already mentioned), and honestly, it's brilliant.

You just strap it to a tree or fencepost etc, and it will capture wildlife via video and photos, which are surprisingly good quality. The batteries last weeks and weeks without issue.

Expect to pay around £50-150 depending on what sort of quality you want.

Aside from wildlife, I've caught some very interesting things on mine, including people wandering though our woods looking very suspicious, people interfering with Pheasant feeders, and so on. People act very weird when they think they are in the middle of a woods with no one else around!

Some more info on this thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... In my post in that thread, I've also linked to another forum that has some great trail cam pictures (and hence camera info).

Or maybe a/some Blink xt2 wireless camera(s). Good night vision, motion activated, small, waterproof etc. Just need the camera to be in range of your WiFi, (or rather the camera to be in range of your blink hub and the hub in range of your router.)

Then when you're bored of spotting wildlife you can use them as 'normal' security cameras.

My eldest (8) asked for these for Christmas.

We've gone with Apeman trail cameras (https://www.apemans.com/category/24_25) - get good reviews. Haven't tested them outdoors yet of course, but did fire them up to ensure they work. Look decent.

Think we went for the H40. Something like £40-£50 plus a memory card (microSD - so £10-£20 for a decent sized one).

With the memory card ones, presumably you retrieve the card every so often and look through it on your PC?
Where do the wifi ones store their "finds"?
