The thread on the beautiful 718 GTS 4.0s arriving has really made me want to explore getting one. Just at the early stages I haven't yet been to a dealer to discuss properly, but did use the Dick Lovett car valuation (under the official Porsche website) for my Boxster S. It's coming in at £2k less than WBAC, and £4.3k less than another valuation site.

Appreciate these aren't guaranteed prices etc and reality is v different but be good to get a steer if possible. Should I expect a particularly low valuation from an OPC for PX? Normal for this to be quite dramatically lower than WBAC?

I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but if anyone has any experience to share that would be great

I'm not surprised.

My last three didn't get sold to OPC's as their bids were low.

I called around specialist Porsche dealers, and their bids were much better.

The sales chap at my local OPC said he'd love to buy it but they need an 8k minimum margin. Eeeek!!!

Firstly if ordering a new Gts it probably won't arrive until spring 2021 by that time prices will be better, it's wrong time of year to get a decent trade in price!
Secondly I would look to sell privately at a premium over best trade price nearer the time and if that fails go with best trade in offer.
Beware of cookies wbac etc know you have visited their site so next offer goes down bit like the budget airlines but with prices going the other way!

I had same experience, OPC very low - trade (specialists) was actually very fair - eventually sold privately for £2k more (on 50k car). WBAC for me has gone up as I didn't take their offer - they have an unbelievably sophisticated analytics engine behind them and so it does move - also they will improve their offer if they have an auction coming of a certain brand and want stock. It is just like an airline the price varies apparently randomly but we don't see what they see.

WBAC buys cars that are sold then auctioned through Their other company BCA. They always try to knock you down and charge extra fees so you don’t ever get exactly what’s offered. I observed they typically pay 12-18% less than the trade value the cars sell for in their auction hall, traders then pay fees on top. Ergo if you can ever buy privately at or near to WBAC then both seller and buyer getting a reasonable deal.

I am surprised it is as low as £8K. I think last 2-3 GT4's I know what they sold to opc for have had about £10K. But take they have costs
£1700 Vat
£1600 Tax
£1600 warranty
So thats nearly £5K plus anything they need to do to fix it.

That’s codswallop.

They mark up by 8k, they pay £1333 in vat. No such thing as ‘tax’

Warranty doesn’t cost a dealer that.

Yes, I'm sure they need more than 8k across a GT4

The OP is trying to PX a Boxster S

My last Boxster S sold for 36k and the specialist dealer sold it for £41,995

OPC offered me 34K

I was at my OPC last week as my car was being serviced....used car lot was virtually empty. Chatting to Sales Exec they were really struggling to buy used stock and clearly don’t have enough cars to sell. Sounds like Clearly they aren’t bidding enough/cars are selling for over trade.

I was going to trade up the GT4 for a 992C4S and the OPC made an offer on the trade in, just for fun I plugged in the plate to WBAC and nearly shat my myself. The WBAC offer was £7k more than the OPC offer.

Needless to say I don’t have a 992 and Philip schofield has a 5k mile GT4.

I know a couple of people who both said their OPC trade-in offer was less than they were expecting.
One sold privately, the other via an independent.
In the current climate they may not want too much stock, so protecting themselves with lowball offers.

I got the impression that if they don’t want to buy your car they just make a ridiculous offer rather than say no thanks. This is my immaculate 718 GTS 2018 with 11k miles....

Sub 4 year old low mileage cars are exactly what WBAC want.

If described properly they will often pay more than a private sale will ever get, and from my experience put the offers from the main dealers, more so the main dealers who sell the same marque you are selling, to shame.

If it is has nothing to sort out, kerbed alloys etc. they will pay exactly what they offer.

Even when it comes to FSH they are more lenient. They simply take the amount of stamps divided by years, you can have a gap and still they will class it as FSH. Weird, but they way they work.

Some of the others will beat their prices too, which is great if you have one locally.

I don’t have a Porsche example but 18 months ago when I was trying sell my 30k mile 2016 BMW M4, best Mai dealer bid was £24k vs £28k WBAC and £30k from a specialist. In my experience WBAC don’t chip off if your car is as described but they tend to chip off far more than the actual cost of fixing any damage they assess (eg they were going to chip off £850 for a dent to a wing on my
Mum’s Golf- even though I could get a brand new wing painted and fitted for under £400.

Last month I sold a 2007 911 c2s for £28.5k privately, actually had two additional parties willing to buy at full price unseen if deal fell through. Out of interest I had checked WBAC and their quote was £22k, the buyer also checked and it was nearer 20k for him. To be honest I think I could have asked quite a bit more but wanted an easy sale.

Decent difference for a fairly easy private sale, I've always sold private and have never traded in for the approx 40 cars I've owned. It's always worked well but I understand this isn't always the case and at some point I guess something will happen that will put me off it.

We had this earlier this year with my wife's 3 year old Macan GTS. It is immaculate, and well specced, and would have been a perfect OPC used car, but they bid me £5k less than WBAC against an order for a new one. The oddest thing is that they told me what the WBAC price was too! I'm all for transparency but this was just odd, they may as well just have said "we don't want it, thanks". So I didn't place the order for the new car.

I don't get the OPC pricing policy, it doesn't conform to any known logic or commercial model. If they didn't want it they could just have just flipped the car to WBAC to get the deal done, but decided to insult us with a low-ball offer instead.

Whats codswallop
Not sure what world you live in but most business have corporation Tax which is on the profit
Maybe warranty does not cost them that much but then I have not added Rates, Rent , Heating lighting ,wages , employer Ni contributions, Employer contributions, advertising, water and waste charges, telephone & internet, security, repairs to buildings, staff uniforms, equipment etc etc
