I'm in the market to replace my nearly 3 years old Huawei P10 Plus. I have been looking at the OnePlus 8 range and like what I see.

My life is too dull for someone in China to care about so I have no issue with having another phone built there.

My main queries around the phones are;

1) the 8T is 402ppi and 2400 x 1080 pixels. It also has 65w charging but no wireless. Not sure wireless is a deal breaker tbh.

2) the 8 pro is 513ppi and 3168 x 1440 pixels. It doesn't have 65w charging but does have wireless.

I guess my point is, is 402ppi going to be noticeably poor on a 6.55" screen, compared with the 534ppi of my Huawei on a 5.5" screen? I can't imagine that I will notice the difference between 534ppi and 513ppi.

Is 65w charging a deal breaker?

Thanks in advance.

I was in your position a short while ago. Had a P10 plus, then a P10 after I broke the Plus, very good phones but time has moved on. I'm now using a OP6 and it's a night and day difference.

I was one of the few who liked EMUI on the Huawei's but a return to (almost) stock android is so so much better. They also offer 3 years support.

I have been contemplating an upgrade to another OP handset in the future as I'm thoroughly impressed. Short of a Pixel, it's the handset I'd choose now, unless OP do something to drastically fk up the next gen models to what is a brilliant selection of phones right now.

I'm in a similar position with my Mate 20 Pro and there is honestly nothing much out there that I see is worth upgrading to at the moment, but the 8Pro is the closest.

I was interested in the 8t, but it would be a step down for the screen and 65 w charging is not anything I need really. I have 40w on my phone and that is more than fast enough.

Samsung are launching the S21 range soon, but I guess that still won't have a Snapdragon chip in the UK, so I'm dubious about it.

Maybe the OnePlus 9 will appeal in March, but again it would need to be really special to warrant me getting one over a phone that already does virtually everything I want it to.

TBF my P10 does everything I want, but the battery life is getting poorer each day. I just don't know if I can justify £749 on a phone lol

Can the battery be replaced by a specialist, if you like your phone then why change it? The only consideration is security updates for your phones operating system.

I replaced the battery to my P10 before the new phone. A bit of a sticky battery (they all are now) but wasn't too hard a job at all if the chassis isn't bent.

Maybe swap the battery out and see yourself through till early/mid next year?

I like my 8T. Flat screen so you can actually use a screen protector, and close enough to stock android to be sensible.

Having access to Android 11 would be good, plus the one issue with my phone is that it doesn't seem to like Android auto very much. It would be nice to have an OLED screen over the LCD.

Don't get one of their cases. Buttery is putting it mildly.

I purchased a Xiaomi pocofone f2 pro last week which arrived yesterday.

Paid £269 delivered direct from Xiaomis UK website and it came with a free smartband (part of their ongoing black Friday sales week)

Its absolutely fantastic, Snapdragon 865, 6GB ram, 128GB storage, 5G, NFC, 6.67" amoled screen, 4700mah battery with rapid charging, 64MP camera, plus a whole load of other cameras including a popup selfie cam, so the whole front of the phone is pure screen/glass.

For the money I doubt anyone could better it. (A touch on the heavy side though if I had to pick a fault)

Just a slight hijack.......

Why are you wanting to ditch the Huawei?

I have a 2 1/2 year old P20 that is working faultlessly and wondered if you were having any deterioration?

Battery life isn't good, won't receive latest updates, we now have 5G where I live and it has a few issues with connectivity to bluetooth / wifi sometimes.

Another vote for Xiaomi. My Note Pro 8 arrived yesterday. £128 in the sale last week for 6GB ram and 128 GB storage. Was expecting plasticky crap to be honest, but it certainly isn't. Gorilla Glass 5, fingerprint scanner, 64mp quad camera, it's great. If it lasts only 2 years (has a 2 year warranty anyway), then I'll be happy for that price!

Been using the phone since Thursday evening, getting used to the different ways it does stuff over my Huawei. Seems a tidy thing, no real issues. Doesn't seem to allow me to set different notifications for different messaging apps (sms / whatsapp) but I am sure that is just something else I need to do.
Screen is nice, 120hz is fast, cannot say that I have noticed the difference between 534ppi and 402ppi or QHD and FHD.

I am still learning bits about it, so will report back again (if I remember!) once I have truly gotten used to it.
