Does Sky have a lag?
Discussion
Over the weekend I was at a mate’s house to watch a game on his brand new 60”++ Samsung OLED TV on SkySports HD on his SkyQ box.
I was shocked to see at times there seems to be a lag on SkyQ. E.g.: ball gets passed, midway in pass ball slows down for a brief moment, then in the final third ball accelerates unnaturally.
Is this normal for Sky (because it is still a satellite dish signal)?
I have Virgin at home on an archaic TV, but I never suffer from this.
Keen to understand if this is a thing as I will be moving house soon and there’s no Virgin at the new house.

Probably the motion smoothing/interpolation setting on the TV, by default most TV's completely mangle the image so need to turn off all the enabled 'features', clearview, smart noise reduction etc....

The CMR (Clear Motion Rate) option in Samsung TV helps in providing a smooth frame transition when watching fast action program. This feature corrects two different picture problems, Blur and Judder. When set correctly CMR can reduce the amount of noticeable blur or judder on your TV. If set incorrectly this option may over compensate for this motion and disrupt your viewing experience.

Tom Cruise gave a good primer of why it's bad and should be disabled:https://www.samsung.com/in/support/tv-audio-video/...

I have Sky Q and never have anything like that. I turn all that image crap off as soon as I get to the menu on my new TV.
And don't get me started on soap opera effect. It's makes everything look like a cheap US drama from the 90s.
edit...I've just watched that clip. SEE?????? Even Tom Cruise hates SOE.

Not the same but a nice little anecdote. Back when I was a student I worked for one of the big high st bookies. They kept losing a fortune on goal scorer bets online and couldn’t work out how the group was doing it.
Turns out someone had worked out (possibly an insider) that the bookies watched the football on sky which is slightly delayed, so if you were to listen to the radio you could hear about a goal at least a couple of seconds before the bookies knew and closed the betting. A syndicate had set themselves up with dozens of accounts and devices ready to place bets each game and made a killing.
