Hi, I'm thinking about importing a JDM subaru, is this generally a good idea? They seem to get better cars than uk ones and in better condition, but my main concern is getting parts. Just looking for general feedback from JDM car owners and their experience.

Cheers

Use a well reviewed/regarded importer (I used Torque GT, would recommend as have others)

You'll likely pay more than you would for a car that's already in the UK

What model Subaru are you looking at? Most of the commonly imported ones have reasonable parts availability in the UK especially as there are common parts across models and variants (ignoring body parts!)

Hi, thanks for the reply, yeah I will be using torque gt to import. I am looking at a gen 5 legacy either GT-S package, or the TS model. Are STI parts harder to get hold of?

you can import parts too if you need to. Obviously more expensive and depends on uk stock for said parts.

I run a toyota crown, parts are not easy to get here! so even basic things I end up having to import from japan.

lucky for me most of the suspension is shared with uk sold cars(lexus is200/gs300 etc)

as far as importers go, yes torqueGt is a good shout. They're not cheap but they are worth.

Depending on your timing, be aware that due to global problems shipping anything westwards, shipping availability may cause you delays, and shipping cost is likely to be significantly higher than normal atm.
